Who else saw it? I thought it was great. There was a bit too much playing to fanboys and a little heavy on the same gags, but the twists were very good. I was figuring the antagonist was going to be Luke turned evil but I dug how they did it.

My Star Wars Story....

I remember back in 1980 when the 2nd Star Wars movie,
The Empire Strikes Back came out. I was working a
“high school job” at the State theater in down town Ann Arbor.

I was the “close up guy” one night. The next day when I arrived at
work the police & management were there to question me about
“the theft of Star Wars”.

The theater had a bad habit of leaving the movie reels (in their cases)
in the lobby for pick-up by the delivery company. I remember locking up
that night, thinking to myself, that is really dumb the way they leave the
movies sitting in the glass door lobby where anyone & everyone who walks
by can see the movies just sitting there!

These were the 35mm films. They weight a ton and were like 8 or 9 reels
in 4 or 5 cases. They contain a lot of silver, but of course are also worth
a lot of money for other reasons as well.

Can you imagine what that original movie would be worth today? As far as
I know, it was never recovered. My guess is, it’s still sitting in the basement
of some U of M frat house.

P.S. I have a very cool Darth Vader adult size costume for sale...

Not big into Star Wars, but maybe I'll watch it this weekend from the comfort of my couch :D

ok... what number movie is this one ... I'm confused ... I saw the first 3 films but havent ever seen the last 3 and really have no real desire to see them unless I need to see them to understand this movie

It was good, not great.
I felt this paralleled Episode IV way too much. I wanted the story to continue but feel like this doesn't quite line up with where the original movies were going. I also felt it gave too much screen time to the villain.
Another complaint I had was that I felt like they were trying too hard to add humor. I had flashbacks to the Transformer sequels where it was like they intended it to be a comedy and some action got in the way.
I hated the ending. It was predictable and annoying.
The characters were good, the storyline moved well. All that said, I am reserving a full on disappointment level till the rest of the trillogy comes out. I can see how this would lead to movie 2 and 3 being more fullfilling.
I am quite irritated with Disney though. They have turned this into a massive cash cow. You can live a whole day interacting with strictly Star Wars branded items. You can't watch TV without seeing it somewhere. There are 2 'off shoot' movies coming out (Star Wars Rogue and one about Han Solo). One of the things I loved about Star Wars was it wasn't the Marvel universe. It was fun and enjoyable and limited. It took 35 years for us to get 6 movies. In the next 5 years we'll have 5 more. I really hate what Disney has done to this franchise.

I agree with the parallel to Ep. IV. After they get to the base, it switches to RotJ until the end. It left a lot of questions unanswered, and the movie could have used more time to better flesh out details. Visually, I thought it was a great looking film. Worth a watch, but I think it's hard to judge until the trilogy is complete. Lots of character arcs are unclear.
