NEW PLUG PICS ON PAGE 3.

I just got my engine back together after lifting several pistons ring lands and dont want to go through this again. Here are some of the plugs out of my small ford with 10# boost and race gas. One of the plugs is getting shiny yellow and looks like lead fouling, the others are tan brownish but have small specs on them. I dont want any more melted pistons. Let me know what you think and if you need any more info. THANKS

Take out 4 degrees. Leave the fuel alone for the moment. Also drop down to a 3932 plug. Those are a touch hot for that motor right now. also get a few of the AR 3932 plugs becuase they have a cadium plating that shows heat better. plugs look 1 range to hot at the moment and a bit overtimed. .

whats total timming at ?

I doubt its at 18-19. Its look way hotter then that. Pull more out. put in the 3932 plug leave fuel alone for the moment.

Did you TDC the balancer and timing pointer ? I would still recomend taking out 4 degree in the pms your using and see what ya get. The timing mark is way over the heel of the electrode in those pictures. The fuel color is a bit dark but fiarly typical of a working and surviable 110 tune up.

Its easier to add timming and work your way up then it is to break it and then fix it.

Bruce Plecan "before he died" always used to say.

"Run the least amount of timing constitent with performance"

a mantra I have applied over the years with great sucess.

Timing is at 10 base idles at around 22 peaks to 28 and drops to 17-18 under full boost.
wrong plugs shouldnt be using extended tip with any adder. And by the way check with advanced auto for the plugs you need they usually stock them and are cheaper

NGK's here... Cheapest around...

Same goes for Autolites... :icon_bigg

Too bad my wifes grandfather has passed away. He was a big shot for McCord gaskets and could probably tell you all you ever wanted to know about spark plugs. Matter of fact, he came up with the idea for the "gasket" on the spark plug.

I have used 3928 plugs with turbos before. Its a fiarly cold plug. similar to a ngk 7. This motor for whatever reason runs really hot. My gut tells me the pms is not removing the right amount of timming or there is a spark scatter issue. The 3928 should be ok with this combo at this boost level being as I have used this plug at this power level before with not real issues to date. But that being said the plug says its to hot so adress that issue and go forward. Can't argue with the motor.

the 3932 plugs are cold enough to keep it alive to figure this out. I would prefer to see the 3932 stay in the motor anyways from a safety perspective. Those are my thoughts.

got the 3932 in today. Damn, ordered them last night at 8pm from Summit and had them on my door by 12 noon today. I will put them in Friday pull 4 more degrees of timing and see how they look. I will keep you guys posted. I need to get this thing right so I can go back up to 17-19# boost.

wish i would have seen this earlier, I think I have two packs of the 3932s you could have had for the price of shipping.

well get it looking good here and then go up 2 psi at a time. Sharp eye on the plugs will keep it alive.

I agree, you can see the timing mark pretty well in some of those shots and it's got too much right now.
