spare tire spindown help!!!

Im sure I am not the only person that has had this issue.

I can't get my flat spare tire down to get it fixed.

It is a full size rim that matches the other 4 rims however the rusty
mechanism inside the cubby in the back of the dingo is broken and I cant get the spare tire down!!!

Now i want to know if I have to go to the Dodge dealer to get this repaired the right way.

I went to several local tire chains in town and the tell me they can get the spare down and repair it but then I will have to throw the spare in the back of the dingo.
"No I say because I haul stuff in the back of the dingo"

Can someone tell me if I need to see the dealership?
 
I have the one out of my 03 Ram you can have if it's the same? Don't need it since the spare won't fit under anymore with the exhaust and now bigger tires.:coolugh:


Spray the pi$$ out of it with WD-40 or similar and hope it starts working again?:itsok:

Air the tire down so you can crank it up a tad more, and then back? just to get internals moving if they will?

I already spayed the pi$$ out of that cotter pin thingy in my cubby in the back of the dingo. then the damn pin broke right off with very little turning involved!!!

ugh!!

I figured its going to need the whole thing replaced.

drag that its a dealer item too...

Get the tire down, unbolt the "thingy" and see what you can do to fix it!

I couldn't imagine what the dealer would charge to replace it, and it might be something kind of simple? Worth a try.

Mike I dont think you follow me here.

lifting the hatch on the back of the durango there is a cubby door just inside backthere that has a little hole that you hook the crank/jack pole together into and spin it to make the spare case go down?

well that pin is broken in there and you cant spin it down that way.

my guess is cut the whole thing off? idk?
 
Yeah, sounds like your screwed, grind off whatever's holding the tire up in place and replace the "jack assembly"

If you can grind or cut whatever's holding the spare in place, you can avoid paying the dealer? I just hate paying the dealer for shi# I can do, just might take me a little longer.

yeah idk what i want to do.

the tire place said "we can get the tire down but we would just put it in the back of the durango.

That might work temporarily until I can get under it and get the whole thing working correctly.

Wait until you have the replacement in hand then, bust it off!
