Sooooooooo what's everyone doing for insurance?

Let's add the fact they split our deductibles and out of pocket expenses now... They are changing it as they go since this train wreck has no brakes...

It's just crazy with ObamaCare.. a doctor can bill for $1500 and they might actually get $40 for it.. That's why a lot of places dont want to accept that insurance

When I had obamacare it was BCBSM and it was great insurance. It was roughly 220/month for just me. When subsidized, it was 90 or so per month.

It was accepted anywhere BCBSM was accepted. It was great insurance.

When you buy through the marketplace you select any plan you want. HAP, BCBS, and some other brands. I'm not sure you are even familiar with what you are speaking to. I only say that because most people I've heard trash it never even looked into it, and then what you just said didn't make sense to me.

$104 per month, my employer picks up the other $600-something, but that's for me only. That's HAP PPO.

Congrats on the kid, they're awesome!

My monthly contribution is $620 for me, my wife, and our son. This is for medical and dental for the 3 of us and vision for my wife and I. It also includes the $100 fee to cover my wife since she is able to get coverage at her job.

We have HAP PPO now. Before we had our son, we had Blue Cross and I compared the costs and HAP was less expensive with about the same coverage. To have a child with Blue Cross, it was about $3500. With HAP, it was $300. With Blue Cross we constantly got bills and HAP seems much better.

My elderly parents, one has Medicare and a rider, my mom isn't old enough pay about $1100 a month and really don't even use it, they are in pretty good health.

I had no idea how good we have it. My wife works at Oakland University and I knew one of the perks was their benefits package, but I haven't even looked at how much insurance costs where I work simply because hers has been so good. For myself, my wife and two kids we pay $68/month. For 2017 it goes to $73/month. When our son was born we paid $38 and when our daughter was born I think it was $29. In both cases it was because we had cable TV in the room and our insurance doesn't cover that. Everything else was 100% covered.

:jawdrop2: are they hiring?!? That's so cheap! Especially for the births

With the 3rd kid we had this year the same BCBSM Silver PPO plan I'm on now rises to $1,460.57 for 2017. No more kids for us so I'm gonna drop to a lower level plan. The reality is either way it works out to be similar if you're on a shitty plan and absorb all the costs as they come, or on a decent one and spread it out every month. The incentive is obviously to wildly abuse the medical system and go to the doctor every time you blink at these prices.

I knew the monthly costs but was still surprised about the births. I figured we'd be out ~$1,500/ea.

To be honest, I think 2015 was the first time she had to pay anything. Prior to that insurance was completely covered by her employer. The pay is relatively low compared to other industries considering her level of education (MBA) and where she's at in her career, but the benefits (specifically insurance and their retirement contribution (high percentage of salary, no match)) are unmatched anywhere else. It more than offsets any shortcomings.

Must be a university thing. Couple of my coworkers wive's work at the U of M hospital and they said childbirth pretty much costs them basically zero. Don't know what the premiums are though.

That's what we are on now...

My biggest fear about switching is if the new insurance is going to cover my sleep meds... I can't afford to pay the 12k a month for them.... That's the only reason I been sticking with BCBSM

TI can't afford to pay the 12k a month for them....
Please tell me that's a typo and someone isn't getting billed $144K/year for sleep pills.
When I looked at a high deductible plan I researched buying my meds in Canada.
It would have been less expensive for me to pay out-of-pocket in Canada than buy here with insurance. Absurd.

It's not... And I went through the ringer for 3 years to qualify for this medicine... It's a liquid form... My problem is I can't fall into REM or I can't get out of REM... I either go insomniac or narcoleptic.... This regulates all this... Only one maker of the drug... Highly regulated...

Can you buy it in Canada?

Never looked into it... For 3 years I lived off redbull/monster and will to get this sorted out... I never had a good nights sleep till I was put on this medicine... It's a complete difference...

I think for $12K/month I'd avail myself of DBK's proposal.
I've also heard that Xanax with a NyQuil chaser is good for sleep. :-p

Not until it's legal federally...

Wonder if I use all 3 gives me twice the sleeping power? :hmm:
