better to learn on wires. and a good tip it heat the wire up good and hot so the solder flows in to it. it doesnt do any good to have a big glob on the tip of the gun.

Don't even try to do the chassis without the flux, its not even worth trying with no flux. At least now I know why you are frustrated.
