Who all, even after the elections, has plans to leave Michigan because of our shitty economy?

I'm thinking about leaving within a year to go down to Phoenix. My parents are going so I'll drive down with them. Transfer my job down there, go back to school down there, get my ASE certs then get back to work as a mechanic in an area with some $$$.

Anyone else consider leaving?

Wife's Uncle & his family left for Seattle. Got let go his job (automotive design) and was hired by Boeing. Said he didn't want to leave but the economy is so shitty here didn't have a choice. Now he's making good $$$ I'd have to consider it if my wife ever lost her job.

seeing as I'm 100% based on the Automakers there's a good chance I'll be out of a job soon. Not really really soon, but it's a thought in my head. I've been looking just to be safe, but can't find anything. If I lost my job, I'd move to wherever the jobs were.

I have a good job going now, but if I loose it, im not sending any resume's out in michigan. First thing i would do is pack up and leave. I hate winter, and the economy blows, even though granholm says its already coming around.

Here in Lansing - shops are starving.

With GM closing a couple plants, Olds getting shut down (I know, it was a few years ago), and a bunch of other shit - nobody has money to fix their cars. Thats why I am not fixing cars at a dealership or even an independant garage. Not enough business for me as a flat rate tech :( Out there, I can get certified ASE and get back to work.

I know the parts stores are doing well just because people have to fix what they have to get to work-they don't have $$ to buy a new car. Seen the number the "backyard mechanics" explode near where I work. Most of those guys have no idea what the hell they're doing. I'm sure that's killing a lot of repair shops.

I got something on the side right now I should be financially set within a year or two :icon_mrgr as long as I dont lose my job in the next year I will be fine :badass:

Thinking very seriously about it. I have nothing keeping me here. I'm starting to get rid of shit I don't need to make this easier.

i debated going to Florida, but my entire family is here in michigan, i just couldnt bring myself to do it

Last time I got laid off this very thing played big in my decision to stay. I had a job in Jacksonville all lined up, but couldn't leave my family.

Dont' do it.. you would pay more then you think just in surance a lone...

The only thing that I have keeping me here right now is the job. The wife has wanted to move back to NY since a month after she got here (5+ years ago). I think that if I suggested we move, she could have everything packed in half a day. She could have two job offers in upstate NY by making 2 phone calls but there isn't so much for me to do there. We're here for the time being. When next summer rolls around, I think we'll have to make a decision to stay or go.

Parts stores are barely hanging on unless your corporate... All the independent stores are hurting bad... REAL BAD... They are doing whatever they can to keep their doors open... How I know? My dad and I run them... We are doing whatever it takes to keep doors open... It's starting to climb slowly but steadily... We hit rock bottom... We are making our way up...

Yeah I was talking about murrays, autozone etc. I know we're doing pretty well. It does suck that the independant stores are all but gone. What is the name of the one you guys own/run?

Richards Auto Parts...

Murray's and Autozone can't touch us in Detroit cause we are cheaper and we can get special orders the same day... It was a big mistake for you guys to come into the Detroit city area... :icon_bigg

No you won't. Most insurance companies have started strictly "forida" divisions to offset the cost of insurance. I have plenty of friends that live down there. The closer you are to the coast, the more you pay. That's how it should be anyway.

Can't be any more expensive on oil or Filters. I don't even buy them from work-I can get them cheaper almost anywhere else. We get a lot of people driving to my store from Detroit because we're cheaper than the store in the city. ;)

I am taking a buy out at FORD and heading to S.C. with my wife and kids, I already have a job lined up and in is warm all year. Lots of local drag racing too.:peelout:

You have Hurricane Insurance...
Flood/Water Damage Insurance
Then the Floridian Insurance...

We went through the same thing owning a house in FL...

Oh not to mention the 5k deductibles if you need to file for insurance because a hurricane ripped your house up...
