So we're no longer looking for a Pitbull

I know a little while back I had asked if anyone here knew of anyone with a fairly specific type of pitbull my family and I were looking for. We were also planning on getting said puppy in the spring/summer 2011. Both plans changed. :D

Turns out a friend of mine who works at a veterinary office came into a litter of Bullmastiff puppies that were just a few days old. This 9 pup litter was the accidental pregnancy of 2 unrelated pure bred Bullmastiffs. The parents have no history of HD, health issues of any kind, etc. They were a 6 year old 90lb mother and 150lb 1 year old male. Unfortunately the mother dried up and was no longer able to produce milk. My friend took 3 of the pups. The 2 largest males and 1 female. As soon as I heard about this I called SHOTGUN on the biggest male of the litter. :D He should be here in 5-7 more weeks.

Anyway, his name is going to be "Maximus" and here are a few pix of him...

5 days old... (he's the one in the middle atop the other pup)

They haven't opened their eyes but we're going to see the pups as soon as they do.

As soon as he gets of age I'm going to buy him a custom saddle and have my youngest daughter ride him like a horsey.

I think I saw those on Facebook. God, I'd love to have one of those!

Good name for it. He'll be a good boy! They're such gentle giants!

I think they still have pups who need homes...

They are a VERY protective, loyal, and fearless breed. He'll serve his purpose. That purpose being to love and be loved and to protect my family when I'm not here to do it.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I was going to get a playmate for my Beagle. His mother had another litter (her last) with the same father. She lost her milk within the first couple days. I checked with a couple different Vets (even called MSU Vet school) about possible problems. 2 of the 3 told me there could be problems since they didn't get the proper nutrition from Mom even though the the dogs owner took over right away. I decided against getting one.

Again just giving you some info from my experiences.

What are they wanting for an adoption cost? Vet bills? I'd be interested for sure!!! I bet I could swing it past the wife :D And yes - thats what I love my dog for. I'd love another one to give her a companion as well.

I hear ya, and I had the same concerns. I checked with a few different experienced and knowledgeable unbiased parties and nearly all of them said that so long as they are in experienced hands and getting the supplemental nutrition they should, there's really no scientific evidence showing any reason why they should have any health or behavioral problems due to not having been fed for the normal time by their mother's milk. Most of them even referred to how many women today do not breast feed.

Hell, Diesel was a perfect specimen of his breed, fed by his mother til it was time for kibble, came from a good bloodline, etc and I had to put him down 3 days before he turned 4 due to a terrible bone cancer he never showed any signs of having. You just never know what health problems any person or animal is going to have until they have it.

Very true. Good luck with the (soon to be) big guy

Do you have a fenced in yard? Would you prefer a male or female? Would you also want the opposite sex if that's all that's left for adoption?

And to be clear, I am NOT now against pitbulls. I love that breed to death and I know that they are one of the greatest breeds any family could have in their home. These bullmastiffs just came to me at the right time and I could not pass up adopting one. If I had a bigger home with a bigger yard and I had more patience and time, I'd still adopt a pitbull too. But I couldn't handle 3 dogs at once.

8 ft privacy fenced in backyard. Not picky - prefer female and have no problem with runts of litters. Let me know what they're looking for cost, you can shoot me a PM.
