So, Volkswagen is dead huh?

I was thinking the same about a good time to buy stock. Just have to time the bottom of it right. Definitely need to wait until fines and what not get announced.

The notion that you should attempt to time this and buy stock is crazy.

This is going to fuck VW in ways you can't even imagine. The punitive thrashing they take in the US will be a very tiny crudite appetizer to the 32 oz filet of ass-blasting main course they will take should this extend to cheating on European standards. You think our regulatory state revels in plundering industry here? Whoa boy will Europe delight in showing the Germans and their dirty particulate who is boss. There are a bunch of lazy Euros who'd love to take the high and mighty Germans down a peg or two as it is. The fact they were cheating on environment standards when climate change spazzes run that continent? This will be nasty.

This will be an epic reaming. I saw estimates between 12-17 billion. VW has already put aside 7 B for damages. Add to all the previously mentioned points, the 51 million the US government shelled out as incentives for VW cleaner, high-mileage diesels in 2009. Would that constitute VW defrauding the US government? I think some people might be looking at jail time, too.

The stock screen cap that I posted is only half of the story. It closed at 163 on Friday. It's at 106 right now. It's down 35% in 2 days

The whole notion that the US and Europe can find them billions for this is ludicrous.
They should file bankruptcy and re organize on paper as another company.
Blame the software glitch on a old deceased engineer.....
I suspect they will find other manufactures guilty of similar practices.

I'm not saying I would plan to buy stock this week, LOL. Timing the bottom would certainly include waiting for any regulatory body announcements on fines, etc.

I would hate to own a VW dealership right about now. VW was really making a charge in the market too. Wonder if they can ship all the "faulty" cars to China to fill the gap left by the huge explosion. Lemons into Lemonade :)

GM paid the feds 900 million to buy their way out of the ignition switch deal that actually killed people.
How much worse off can VW be having not killed anyone? :dontknow:

Feds are going after the big dogs so they can collect big $.
If the emmission portion was REALLY a big deal and the epa/governments were SO concerned with clean air they would just make VW fix the problem on the vehicles.
My guess is they will pay a multi billion dollar fine and not change the calibrations on any cars.

The real story here is going to be the fall out.
Dont kid yourself, they are not the only ones skating mandated requirements.... regulators are going to be looking really hard here to find more cheaters... .... the real question is whos next.
most cars can be reflashed via wirless connection now....
Any Bets?

wonder who ratted them out?
I think it was a third-party testing facility that noticed it.

I audibly laughed when I read the news.
Can't pass a silly bullshit government test.. Okay, gang .. This is what we're gonna do..
Let's add a few lines of code. Figure out when the car is being tested and then switch tunes during the test.
The "bad" tune that people are complaining about deliver better fuel economy btw.
The fact that we're all alive & well sort of reveal how arbritrary and unneeded the government regulators are.

It is a totally ridiculous situation, but bowing at the alter of environmentalism is the zeitgeist of our age. What blows my mind is that they were dumb enough to do it while so stridently pitching the cars as clean diesel. Don't go nuts on your environmentalism while skirting environmental law.

Winterkorn resigns.
