So, Volkswagen is dead huh?

if it impedes (any negative impacts) performance, reliability, or inconveniences the owner of that car in anyway than how it was initially sold, the oem better have a plan B.

thats why the Buy backs will start soon,, number im hearing to retro fit the system 5k and up

Except you're forgetting that the far left will argue that the extra emissions that the TDI put out heavily contributed to the respiratory fatalities of people living in LA/Cali.

GM made an innocent mistake and then absolutely, wrongfully covered it up.
VM knew the test parameters & intentionally gamed the system from the start, all while marketing their clean diesel tech worldwide.

Nooooo, it's a Foreign company. They will get a slap on the wrist. Now let it be GM, Ford or FCA? They would want a public hanging of the executives in charge of the company.

If VW was smart they would buy them back, ship them to Mexico, India or some other 3rd world country that could give a shit less about emissions.

reports say the only way to fix the cars is to add a urea system and that would require the cars to be re test crashed

That's not 100% true, in my eyes.

The reports say they used an unclaimed AECD to avoid implementing a DEF based system. NOx control is still possible using the LNT strategy they implemented in the early years.

For the later years they utilized a DEF based SCR system.

the fixes are not transparent for all model years. There's a lot of confusion in this story, and a lot of speculation from unqualified individuals (not tossing you under the bus Ken), the reporters are putting uneducated statements in the press.

I think its more of the negativity towards the people who think that electric/hybrid cars produce zero waste. Im all for technology but I think that its a game of shells with statements about how "clean/green" a new car is. If I save the earth by limiting my tailpipe emission X amount of PPM/year that's great. But if my car saves x amount PPM/yr and the manufacturing process/ materials used to build it create more then am I really creating a greener planet? Now you can also factor in the extra X amount of PPM/energy spent to supply power to my house to plug my car in.

Its the same scenario as stating that you spend $xx.xx less per month in gasoline because you bought an electric vehicle when people don't factor in the $xx.xx amount per month extra they spend on their home electricity bill.

Though I still love a lumpy cam, gas buring car, I really like my Plug-in hybrid Fusion for a DD as well. I can't claim to be clean / green, but the car definitely saves me money on gas. In my 2014 Fusion Ecoboost, I spent $150-200 per month on gas. In my 2015 Plug-in, I use 1 tank of gas about every 2 months and my electric bill went up $19 per month.

heres what a urea system costs on a Passat TDI, that didnt pass the test either

these are retail prices not counting labor

Cooler ($361)
• Aftertreatment Fuel Tank ($534)
• Dosing Valve ($240)
• DPFE ($105)
• Temperature Sensor ($171)
• EGR ($401)
• Catalyst ($688)
Total = $2,500

keep in mind changing the particulate filter on a jetta is a 6-7 hour job

I saw only $14-16 per month in my electric bill increase. I must say, driving my C-max is not as fun as my truck, but all in all it's a cool little car. I hope I can get one for close to the same money I'm paying when the lease is up.

No problem.....I know a guy

I honestly don't understand what the big deal is from the consumers point of view. If I owned one and was happy with the performance/economy I'd continue to drive it and not do a thing about it. It's not like these cars are "rolling coal", I've always liked them and pay attention to them. I've never seen any obvious pollution like I get out of my duramax. Have they published the test results? I'd like to look at them.

My job takes me in to heavy diesel shops all the time and can tell you these systems have really hurt the reliability of a diesel engine. Emissions controls are a complete mess, I hear of systems getting deleted all the time. EPA04 EGR, EPA07 DPF, EPA10 SCR...blah!

From the government standpoint I can understand all of it but as a consumer I say who cares. As a society we will destroy ourselves long before we destroy the planet.

The epa has already threatened to ban the VIN of any car not repaired , so thats why people care they bought into the 50mpg hype after the fix 20 will be realistic

It astonishes me that the government would threaten to ban a vehicle that creates higher emissions that have not been linked to any deaths, but doesn't force people to fix their recalled vehicles for safety defects which has been linked to deaths.

its illegal to resell anything in the USA with a open recall,

yes, for example if you sell something at a garage sale thats recalled and a person gets hurt you are Liable

there was just a news article about car dealers selling used cars that did not have recall work performed

3 weeks ago I purchased a recalled Dehumidifer at a auction, i didnt know it was until I googled looking for a manual

Ok, so lets say I bought a used car thats had 5 different owners and is 15 years old. It has an open recall that needs to be performed. How do the last 4 owners know it has a recall. Short of calling the dealer to run a VIN for each car sale/transaction, if you arent the original owner, you probably wont know there is a recall.
