So my sump pump quit working and tried to kill me

Yup, got home and there's water on the floor. I walk to the sump and it's spilling over. Look in and the pump's float is up and the breaker hasn't popped so I figure the pump went bad. Stupid me just reaches down into the water and guess what? Bare wire. No idea how, but as soon as I got close to the pump everyhting goes black and my arm feels like it's been twisted into a pretzel. Weirdest experience of my life. After coming to my senses I pulled the plug and swapped to the backup pump and all is well now, but damn my chect and arm hurts!

Lesson learned (again), water and electricity don't mix, and shortest path to ground doesn't mean it won't hurt you.

Talk about a electrifying experience.

The worst part is *you* are the wiring guy....We would understand if anyone else decides to jump in a puddle of water with live wires, but not you! Hahaha

Well, sorry for your mishap, but it is a little funny, you know :)

Damn Joe! I think you've cheated death via electricity many-a-times already! Glad you're alright!

I was gonna say this. But to the OP, glad you're okay. I was at a collision shop yesterday and the guy walked in with a new pump and his old shitty one was sitting there. It's that time of year I guess. Two pumps failed, and two pipes clogged in houses. There is a thread here about that too! WTF.

i had that happen at my place too...The float was up, just no dice. I was pissed because the floor was all wet so I smacked the float with a copper pipe and bingo it came on...Nice.....
what a mess...good you are ok!

Yup, stupid mess up on my part but I was really tired and was in a rush to fix it. My chest muscles are pretty tight today.

Isn't that the assistants job to pull wires that you don't know where they actually go, you know, as part of the learning experience?

I'm shocked that you didn't pop the circuit when it grabbed hold of your ass and starting buzzing you up like a light insect trap.
