I have a Chase bank BP Visa card with a $500 limit. I racked up about $380 this month and the bill should be here soon...I am really trying to build credit quickly, should I pay the full balance? or pay the minimum payment just this month and pay it off next month? what builds the most credit quickest?

thanks,
ryan

Pay it off right away. To help, go to any gas station and get a gas card. They are easy to get if you have no credit at all. Put all your gas on it each month and pay it off each month.

Damn both you guys are dead wrong. Paying off a balance every month shows that you cant hold a payment. Credit bureu's want to see that your responsible enough to maintaine a payment. Paying it off every month just shows you have money but no responsibility.....

I just hate to see a young guy starting down the C.C. path. Usually doesn't
end well. Personally, I believe the credit card co's are the lowest form of
evil scum.

You hit that right on the head.....lmao.......

My advise is to build your credit(cause we all know thats what the world revolves around) then dump the credit cards. Once your credit's established you dont need the cards anymore. Just dont fuck it up and you'll be set.

I only have one credit card and it's for gas only. Small limit and it's paid off every month, but my credit's already established. Everything else is cash money...lol...

Pay 1/2 of the bill each month try to carry some balance 50-100 add a little each month like 10-15 bucks. do this for a year and you wont need a Co signer. easiest way is set up an automatic payment from a savings account and keep 200 bucks in it

i agree if you want to raise your credit score, the credit companys like to see that they are actually getting interest off of you, they dont make jack squat if you pay it off every month. also dont ever pay the minimum, even a few dollars over the minimum will register as you paying more than the minimum and raise your credit score.

^^Do this!^^

Really??? Keeping a balance improves your credit?? I always pay mine in full every month and they always raised my credit limit every month until I called and told them not to raise it unless I asked for it.

Just be careful if you keep a balance as the interest payments will add up quick! I was late by a day a few months ago with my payment and I got socked with $45 in interest!!!! But that was my own fault for forgetting to log in and pay it until the day it was due. Payment processed the next day and they waste no time socking you with the interest.

Things like a phone bill will also help your credit. If you have a cell, set it up in your name and schedule automatic payments and that will help your credit. They like things being paid on time. Check out websites like www.freecreditreport.com. They offer tips and advice.

Pay it in full every month. Don't rack up more than 60% of the limit, they look at the max % you've ever borrowed to get an idea if you'll max it out or not.

Ditto. When I applied for a mortgage and another credit card after 2.5 years, my credit was excellent and I got both without a cosigner.
