in the driveway! opti went out so we towed it home and it's sat the past two weeks. some guy from the county came by checking for dog tags making sure everyone has their animals registered. went out after he left and found someone hit my car, backed into the front quarter in front of the wheel. i was pissed, wasnt' for sure it was him because i didn't see it.

so i reported it to the village cops, told them to have the county vehicle checked and the postal vehicle, those were the only possibilities i could find. got a call the next day, i guess one of the neighbors witnessed it. awesome!

so i went to the neighbors next day, he said he was outside and heard the guy hit something, looked over to see him back up some and finish his turn and leave. so i told him to go in and tell the cops that...

went into the station to give them a heads up on it and he said he checked both vehicles and found no damage, (yeah right, lazy a$$ didn't do crap) so i told him about the nieghbor, he didn't say much, still haven't heard back, friday i talked to him last...

so the guy pulled a hit and run on private property, anyone got a clue what's going to come of it? i'll take this guy to court if i have to. now i have to get the opti fixed so i can get it into a body shop for estimates...

Really not much you can do.. you shouldn't have to pay a deductible if you have comp. insurance on it. Make a claim, give the info to your insurance company and go from there.

It was parked which means u pay no deductible. Call insurance, tell them u have a witness and be done with it

It was legally parked, his Insurance covers your car, and provides a comporable loaner vehicle, you have zero out of pocket and dont need to tell your insurance

You would be correct, provided that he admits responsibility or the police amend their report to state he hit the vehicle. If he denys responsibilty, his insurance company has the legal responsibilty to believe what he tells them until proven otherwise. The guy from the county probably has access to numerous vehicles so locating the same vehicle may not be that easy.

As for coverage, this is a collision loss. If you can not get coverage under property protection coverage, you'd file a claim under your policy. If you have broad collision, the deductible should be waived. If it's standard collision, the deductible will not be waived.

And while it's not a 'comprehensive' loss, comp deductibles are never waived except if it calls for such under a glass claim.

that's one of the things i think i've got limited collision on the car, i was hoping i wouldn't have to file a claim on my insurance but now that i think about it that's probably what i'll have to do.

Limited Collision is a sucker bet. It covers only if you are not at fault. If you are at fault (or equally at fault), the insurance company doesn't pay.
