So is Ford Motor Co going to be top dog now?

Happy about it yes. I'll be proud in another year.

-Geoff

Proud of what? That the company you work for was so pourly managed that the goverment of all people had to step in and make the taxpayers loan them the money to rebuild? After alot of the taxpayer had already given the company money by buying the products they sell.

Proud- no, you should be thankful, but not proud.

Wrong. Auto companies worldwide have been suffering huge sales drops. American buyers demanded SUVs until the price of gas shot up overnight; you can't retool the factories overnight.

yes, but how can any company lose money so badly for so long and not restructure sooner? Seems to me that FORD did it years ago.

thanks for the spell check buddy! I was typing too fast.

The new GM is going to profitable in a 10 million car market. That is what I will be proud of next year (me and Trunk actually agree on something). That is all that matters. GM has been on top in sales for year, and it hasn't added up to shit. Toyota with less volume kicks everyone's ass.

I agree GM has been poorly managed too. But do you blame them with the legacy costs that brought them to their knees? They probably could have survived this if they had a Mulally-like visionary CEO, but they would still be struggling even after the recession ends. This is the best outcome for a healthy auto industry.

I agree, it was just the "proud" statement that made me chuckle. Thought for a second you were part owner, oh wait we all are now!

Ford did have a good month. Fleet sales killed GM down 95%. Based on the model for the new GM, they are going to be profitable with sales of around 166,000 per month, and passing that number without fleet sales is even better. That is what I am excited about, and will be proud about next year if it actually happens.

From the Wall Street Journal:
(Ford's) June U.S. light-vehicle sales were 154,873, down from 173,462 a year earlier. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury car sales fell 11% while sport-utility vehicles dropped 20% in June. Trucks and vans declined just 6.9%.

GM reported total U.S. sales of 176,571, with trucks slumping 40% and cars down 24%. At the end of June, GM's inventories were down 26% to about 582,000 vehicles, and down about 33% compared with January.

I agree with you about the definition of King. That is what I stated in my first post in this thread too. The general definition is top sales, but if you want to use "least amount of bankruptcies" then knock yourself out if it makes you feel better.

You are just jealous because in two months GM is going to have a better balance sheet than Ford. And your tax money is paying for it. Did I get a chance to thank you yet? Tx.

-Geoff

are you really that misinformed. yeah in two months GM will have a better spread sheet becuase they spread everyones ass wide open and stuck thier little dick in everyone. GM and chrysler has literallyscrewed everyone over that they have done business with in the last 30 years and not to mention all the stock holders ,retirees that are getting bent over as well.
Go on and talk up GM all you want,go ahead and support them them assholes.you'll get bent over too.
the only reason GM has done well atall in sales over the past 6 months is becuase they were going bankrupt and every single employee that could afford it went out and got thier last chance at a brand new car with thier employee discount.and then theres the public that is buying becuase GM is giving cars away at no profit.
GM might have sold more cars then anyone lastyear, but they made the biggest loss of profits as well.

This comment doesn't have to due with this post, but it has to do with a lot of things I have read from you. You are a tool. Get off gms balls and grow some yourself. I even read back to the grudge section when you locked a thread due to people arguing which that is intended for basically.

They are all losing money! Until profits are met, no can say shit! Sad day when the rustangs rule the car market.

Ford had tried and failed at about 5 different "turnaround" plans over the last 10-15 years. Whether by luck or crystal ball, they actually stuck with one and the timing couldn't have been more fortuitous. Good for them, in all seriousness. But don't disregard the fact that they, along with their bankrupt brethren, were warned by industry experts for well over a decade that they needed to restructure....and they ignored it until they had to mortgage the entire company to raise over 30 billion. They better sell a shitload of cars, because this plan put them in huge debt.

Obviously their reputation is going to come out of this stronger, I'm not arguing that. But this whole "top dog" thing is ridiculous....they all have a tough row to hoe. Guys and their car loyalties are more blind than religious nuts.

OK, so now you are just making things up to fit the future you hope will come true. I can't tell if you are a bitter Ford supporter, or just a GM-hater, but it really doesn't matter. Nothing in life is fair, so get over it.

Wow, there is definitely a tool in this thread, but it is not me. I haven't been an elected official here in a while, so that that thread is probably two years old at least. For accusing me of not having any balls, it took you two years to ask me about locking a thread? It sounds like you are the one with the "lack of balls" issue.

And I am only going to defend GM when someone posts flat out wrong information like the sales numbers this year. I questioned what "king" meant in this thread, and had to point out that it wasn't by sales. Hell, Toyota is still the "King" by most measures.

And if you have any other issues with me, please take your foot out of your mouth and take it to PM, unless you don't have the balls. In which case you can bring it up in another thread two years from now.
