So I was just humbled and found a little smile on my face.

A young man of about 20yrs old with possibly a mild intellectual disability just came to the door selling candy and puzzles. I was working on my computer in the basement and my wife answered the door. He spoke very politily to her and asked if she wanted to buy any of his "stuff" (He gave great descriptions of the products he had.) He then asked that even if she wasn't interested, could he have a glass of water. My wife told him that she would get her husband (ME) and a glass of water. My wife came and asked me to see what the young man had for sale. I went to the door and the young man proceded to compliment me on the look of my house and then went onto tell me that he was selling the products to help with buying himself new clothes so his mother didn't have to work so hard to take care of him and so that he could buy himself a bike then he went into the descriptions of items he was sellng. By this time my wife had brought him a ice cold glass of Coke at which time his eyes got big and he repeatedly thanked her for it. While drinking his glass of coke. I looked at the items in his box and I really wasn't interested in any of it for myself but I decided that just helping him out by buying something was the nice thing to do. (All items were $8 each). I settled on some chocolate turtles. He was starting to talk about how happy he was to hear that the Lions won today to to make there record 3-0 (None of which I knew anything about, I don't follow sports). After about 2 minutes of pleasent conversation he said that he had to get on his way. After walking away about 15ft he turned back and said,"Keep an eye on those turtles. Don't let them walk away." It put a smile on my face. I came back inside and thought about the wonderful personality that young man had and made me reflect on all of the things I feel are important to me. When you think things are tough, stop and think about what other poeple, good people might be going through.
I wish I were in a position to help that young man by more than just buying a $8 box of candy. In a away, he helped me today more than I helped him.

Josh, you're a softie. I mean that as a high compliment.
I give thanks many times a day for all the blessings in my life. Faith, family, health, job.
Keeping people like that young man in mind will help keep a lot of things in perspective.

I hate to rain on your parade but did this gentleman happen to have a deformed lip and walk with a bit of a limp? If so the story he told you was complete bs. I was cutting my grass when this guy walked up to me and asked if I wanted to buy something to help the unfortunate boys he mentors go to a water park. I said I wasn't interested but maybe my mom who was over was. He was selling candy and cheap lions memorabilia that you can buy at big lots for a dollar. My mom asked how much stuff was and he said everything in his box of goodies is 8 dollars. She's a softy also so she bought a little helmet. The kid was very very polite and stayed at the door and talked for a few mins and then while walking away down the drive way said to me that he liked my truck. Yes I felt bad for him but I had no money as I'm unemployed. So I figured my mom would buy something. But then I started talking to my neighbor the next day and when he went to his house the story had changed. He was now selling candy and the lions items to help his little brother play basketball. I guess everyone has their was of making money and his happens to be lieing to people to feel sorry for him.

So sam you just bought a mustang even though your unemployed? Plus one to the kid making a buck.....

Yeah you are right I guess I would rather him walk up to your door.. break in and steal the $8.00..... Whatever his story true or a lie , he is still trying to make money and if he indeed had lots he sure wouldnt be selling turtles for $8.00 and be so polite about it>>> -1

THis kid came to my old house atleast once a year for the past few years. (I lived a few blocks from Josh) ALways polite, and always a smile, always the same story. Although i never bought anything from him, i still answered the door, and thanked him for stopping by.

Good Point Carl. I never trust the story any of these kdis tell (i get atleast 3 every yearbut this kid stands out), which is why i don't buy anything from them. But i will give them credit for "creative marketing". Which i bet most people who look down on what this kid is doing, gets suckered into on a daily basis with other things!

Josh always tends to see the brighter side of things, he's been like that since grade school!

Yes actually I did buy a mustang even tho I'm unemployed. What's that to you? Just because I had some money saved up didn't mean I had to spend with some kid carrying a box of crap in which I didn't want. That's why I had him talk to my mom. Like I said before I felt sorry for him. If not I would of told him no sorry I'm not interested and walked away.
