So I Traded For a GTP

My old GTP went 12.3 with similar mods minus the cam ( I had a stock cam w/1.9 rockers), and a port and polished stock M90 vs the Gen V. This was on drags. Biggest warning I can give you is the transmission, I had many issues and mine was built.

you have the zzp trans? i'm on my 3rd trans, 2 being smei-built up. getting my input shaft and chain done at tax time.

Guess what T dawg, I broke your time! It wasn't a problem, just had a little help from mr turbo! Lol!

First I blew the stock input shaft, had the trans built with hardened input shaft, c-ya dif. Then the dif went and the converter, was stranded at Norwalk after a shootout/magazine article for High Performance Pontiac, rebuilt the trans again just incase any debris messed anything else up, changed the converter, and the dif to an intense unit. Then I blew that dif into many pieces and actually shot pieces of its housing and a spider gear through the side of my trans onto the street creating a gaping hole in my trans casing. So most of my issues were dif related.

Are you manually shifting each gear or is this happening leaving it in drive?

yea, we suffer from such junk trans'. i wish there was a manual option from the factory, or at least one that would work with out so much modification. i've pretty much given up dig racing on the street, too hard on the trans. i'll only go from a slow roll now so that at least the trans is loaded when i floor it. i just got mine back from chipping a piston at stanton earlier in the year, money pits if you mod them past 14s.

Isn't there some way to modulate the boost so its' easier on the trans? In the tuning maybe? :dontknow:

I don't think so! My car spent alot of time on the dyno and the only thing I believe that can be changed are the shift points! But if you are making power in these front wheel cars, you are bound to go through a trans or two

fuck i'm not even making any power, but i guess going for 12s in a 4000lb fwd car could be a tad stressful on a trans.

you can use TQ management to reduce the load during shift and IIRC " i haven't looked into a tune in one of these in sometime" you can set max TQ by gear.

Whatever trans I got from Carlock has been the best trans ever, the thing shifts hard, and still busting ass, I should be around 150k in miles this upcoming sesason I def will be going to the track to see if she will still cut a 12.3-12.6 my bet will be 12.90

If that's the case then i don't see why people are going through transmissions rather than tuning them so they don't break.

i didn't know there where any other GTPs on MM lol.

I'm pretty sure that was my trans re-shelled in a new case. Jason had my trans rebuilt in a new case, none of the shrapnel from the dif went through the trans. So it has all the hardened parts, upgraded clutches, converter, revised gear, etc.

As far as tuning the cars, mine was tuned to drag race, I'm sure the torque management settings could be manipulated to reduce some wear but the car just made so much torque so quickly. This was also 6 years ago when I had this car and as improved trans parts came out I upgraded them only to find a new weak link, though the last incident I personally believe was due to a highly touted POS dif from a reputable company in the 3800 community. I think at the end most of the trans was sorted out, I just couldn't find a good quality dif. I got a lot out of it for what was done to the car and I knew the risks of taking it to the track and abusing it. Everyday use the car was actually fine. I loved the car and had a lot of fun with it, probably would still have it if it wasn't totaled.

you have a Gen. V blower on there as well, much more efficient than the stock M90. i just dropped mine off to have a new motor and blower installed.

that car is deff. good for 12s. i went 13.1 with a stock blower, stock cam, and a 3.2 pulley.

The superercharger in the 3rd pic he posted is most definitely NOT a GenV M90, it is clearly a Gen3 M90.
