They are covering fuel ?? or are they covering IFTA ?? .84 seems a bit high for them covering fuel exspense.Whats the monthly lease payment ?

Sean
Ok, so did i asked some more questions and this is what i got. The lease payment is 700.00 a month, the remburse a certian precentage of the fuel cost, say if you spent 1400 on fuel the would pay you 900.00 back. The cover plating and insurance fees and all tolls. They also are putting in effect jan 1 a bump from .84 a mile to .94 a mile. They guarantee me 3200 to 3500 a week in miles. After a year of good driving with the company i will become an over the road trainer, which nets me an additional .94 a mile. So doing the math, i think i should still come away with a pretty good paycheck!:badass:

This may be a dumb question, but I've always wondered how many gallons of fuel do one of those 18 wheelers hold and what is the approximate range?

Not sure how much they hold but I've seen about a 5-6mpg average on the ones I've pulled trip reports off.

my dad has been driving big rigs my whole life and he said to be careful with that company. he said he once new a guy who worked there and that he got promised the world and got fucked. he said he was promised weekends at home and maybe got 1 a month.he said they hire rookie drivers and take advantage of them. he said to put in your dues somewhere reputable i hope everything works but watch yourself and dont get suckered or fucked with a truck payment and a cobra payment and not enough cash!

I've got my cdl-a and been the road for a few years. 2 yrs local and one yr of otr for a goverment contract. When i was hauling goverment i was making 2.00 a mile running 2800 miles a week. I was running my own rig yadda yadda yadda but at 2.49 a gallon for me to do it agian i would have to be at 3.33 a mile to make what i did before. My advice to you having been there and done that would be to try running as a company driver for 6 months. Take your average mileage and then plot out your exspenses. It will give you a much better feel for what really happens. At 84cpm though with your rig payment and averaging 3000miles a week i think you'll end up at less then 23cpm after you pay all your bills.I find it highly dubois to say that you'll run 300-3200mpk. With the new log book rules it would take incredialbe discipline and some awesome drop hook scenarios to achieve that feat.I am not goiong to admit to the legalities of log books but i can say this. The old log book rules left alot of room for screwing around to create more hrs to drive. If you ran 2 books and stayed out on open highways did mostly drop hook you might be able to drive 3200mpk but its a far stretch to say the least. the reason trainers run so many miles is becuase they have trainies to help drive.

Please take my advice go shopping somewhere for a job werner and TMC etc are good companys that pay good money and are decent to work for. But your going to have to cut your teeth for a yr somewhere first.Whoever your going to work for for the first yr is going to beat you silly. becuase they can and they know that they will have you for at least 1yr becuase it will be impossiable for you to get a job for a yr. So start out somewhere put in a yr get some info together keep all of your records fuel mileage etc and then you'll see that to do Owner/Operator you really need around 1.10m to make a decent living. To be honest the work to be an downer operator is really tough and if you don;t have sweethart deal like i did with my goverment contract its really tough to to make over 30k a yr.

As for fuel mileage in my aerocab 60 series peterbuilt and my volvo 600signature i averaged around 5-6 in flat states and 4-5 in the mountains. If you do city figure 2-4 depending on the city. New york i averaged 1-3.

Here's things that are gonna come out of that 140k. You need approximately 2500 miles a week just to make the payment on the truck. As for your fuel expense. If you're a company driver, you don't pay that out of your check, If you're an IC (independent contractor) you do. They give you an allowance meaning, each week, your fuel card will be given so much money to be used for cash. My drivers get 1700. Whatever they use out of it comes out of their check. The rest just doesn't get used. Don't forget that legally, the most you can drive is 3500 miles in a week (obviously, you can doctor your log books and get more, but that's a huge risk if your freight is guaranteed and DOT nabs you). Basically, if you're an IC, you won't see any money till the truck is paid off. I see all kinds of guys like you come in all excited thinking they are gonna make a ton of money, and they do, but it all goes toward the truck till it's paid off. My drivers get 0.96 per mile, get 3500 miles a week and are all extremely hard up for cash. I've never seen so many people not able to pay their cellphone bills, getting evicted and the sort. Most of it is their money habits, but if you can control yourself for a few years, you're gonna be doing really good. I hope you enjoy driving though. I think sometimes that just traveling nonstop across the country would be a lot less stressful then sitting in an office.

I say fuck it.....Give it a shot....Your young what do have to lose??? Just don't do anything stupid and go buy shit right away. That way if this whole thing doesnt work out you won't have any huge payments and you can go somewhere else without feeling you have to make x amount of dollars to survive. Go big or go home....

What does he have to lose? He'll be on the hook for $150,000 in a big truck payment.

So what turn around and sell it.I'm sure he's gonna need the truck for the line of work he's in anyways...I'm just saying don't get a $1000 mortgage, $600 car payment, utilities, and a huge truck payment. He's gonna need a truck to be an IC no matter where he works.

I think it's a TERRIBLE idea. That's a big nut to try and bust, especially in this market.
