Im going in the morning to buy a snow blower. What would you recommed? I want a 2 stage so I can handle the deep stuff. Iv been looking at sears they have one for 549.00 with only 1 speed and one for 629.00 with 6 speeds and reverse. Is it worth the extra coin for more speeds? What brands do you recomend? Iv really only been at craftsman. Im looking for something between $500-600. Thanks for any help.

I have the older version of that snowblower and I wont buy another one.

I'd go with Ariens

toro or honda single stage is honestly plenty and many companys like tora or honda have 4stroke single stage blowers now...no more Premixing.....my toro is Plenty and works good in the Really Deep stuff up to 22 inches deep.

Look at what the snow removal guys use. Mostly larger single stage Toro's http://www.toro.com/home/snowthrowers/gassinglestage/421Q.html .
My father in-law works for a school district and they have to snowblow ton's of sidewalks ( Think about all of the sidewalks and walk ways around schools ) and they use Toro single stages. He likes them so much he just bought a Toro 221Q : http://www.toro.com/home/snowthrowers/gassinglestage/221Q.html

That what I use also and I love it.

Also, it's light enough that it can be put in the back of a truck or possibly a large trunk by one person it you want to take it somewhere.

toros arent cheap but ive had mine 10 years and only had it in the shop once....only had to have the carb gaskets replaced.

X2 on the Toro, they are worth the money

We have a Craftsman and have had a couple problems with it.

i actually have a snowblower for sale atm.
its 12" tall mouth, and i think 24" wide. 5 forward, 2 reverse, locking pin axle so you can have one wheel, or both pulling. easier to turn with just one. 8hp motor. 4 stroke. used 3 or 4 seasons. looking to get $400 for it.

I got a Troy Bilt 24" 2 stage from Lowes this year. I am pretty happy with it. $599 + tax - 10% off movers coupon. Not sure if they still have them in stock though.

You can also order the 24" online diorectly from Troy Bilt for $599 Shipped.

I have one from Lowes also and like it. It's the basic one that every place seems to sell. I've had it for roughly 7-8 years and have never had one single issue with it.

i used to work at sears. i was advised to ONLY buy the handtools there. craftsman power tools fail. haha.

my dad got a toro, after our little toro push mower we got in '87 is still in use today. that thing is a little tank. 1 pull to start it, every time. it was a little rough when we got that 12 inches a few weeks ago. but it still did alright. we also have a toro zero turn mower. its also pretty tough. when i have to buy all that stuff, i know what brand im gonna buy when the time comes.

Ariens FTW!!! Ours is from the 70's i think and it runs great. The 36" with gets the job done quick too. Although they don't particularly care for newspapers hidden in the snow....... :punchball

1 speed and a 6 speed and reverse? Damn...sounds like a helluva snow blower.

It depends on how long your driveway and how big your backyard is? Small house, cheap blower. Big house or if you use it to make money...expensive one.

I have an ariens from the late 70's it has only let me down 1 time. A few days ago actually. The Float in the carb went bad. I replaced it today and she is as good as new :)

Dude...old snowblowers FTW. My Dad just recently replaced his old one from about the 70's/80's. Couldn't kill that thing if you tried.

My neighbor also has one. He picked it out of the garbage (which he wasn't proud of), but after a carb clean and a plug, ran like a top!!

I am going to pick up one of these if it dies again.

i have a six-speed dual stage craftsman and i'm glad to have the extra speeds. when the snow is 2-3" powder, i can blow through it in the higher speeds and knock out my driveway in 10 minutes.

if you have a longer driveway, i'd spring for the extra "gears" lol.

I picked up a Ariens off a Craigslist back in September from a older guy in Pontiac for $200. When I got there, the thing was practically brand new. He didn't need it anymore since he was moving to Florida the following month.
