Small update and The time has come... Permanent Duty Station picks!

Well I havent been active on here lately due to the fact that MOS school is so hard (and long) right now, that I've had my head shoved in a book for weeks. Military training... definitely isnt like typical college. Typical College you goto school for a couple of hours, do some homework, study a bit and the day is yours. We are required to soak up this info like a sponge its rediculous at how fast the pace is. To put it in perspective I made 10 college credits in just a month and a half. But the good thing is I get out of here around late August... meaning its time to put in my Permanment Duty Station Wish list!

So what I do is I pick my top 3 places of where I'd "like" to be stationed. Now mind you, even though its on my list, it all really boils down to the needs of the Marine Corps. So here is my list so far:

1) Camp Lejuene Jacksonville, NC
2) Miramar San Diego, CA
3) Camp Pendleton Oceanside, CA
4) Norfolk, VA
5) Quantico, VA

I am really trying to be on the East coast. I LOVE it here being so close to San Diego, Vegas, LA and Palm Springs but being on the East coast means I'm closer to home. I love going home and would rather be back in MI than on the West coast. My parents are going through a divorce right now so I'd like to be home to help support my dad.... long story. I go home every chance I get. I also factor in that if i want to go home it cost me around 150-200 from NC instead of 4-600 from CA. So what is everyones experiences of these places? I'd love to hear from Military personnel that have been to these stations but more interested in the general areas around them. Thanks everyone! I'll be coming home for Memorial day!

One of my best friends is in the Marines and stationed at Quantico. He seems to like it a lot over there.

i have no advice for you alex. but we miss your goofy ass, and i hope you get what you want bro!

Man, I miss all you guys too. Its hard as hell out here. The biggest thing I miss the most is the car scene, family and friends... most of which that are in the car scene lol. I miss the east coast so much. Hopefully I'll get Lejuene, but everyone putting request in are getting the exact opposite. A ton of people requested Lejuene and got Okinowa, Japan!

I'm sick of the typical "what is it an SR20? you should do an sr20" and the non educated car people that talk their cars up like its a top fuel dragster. You wont believe the amount of people that will try to race me in bone stock cars, I dont even bother with them lol. I sure do miss Motown!

I'll be home for memorial day, wheres the party at!?

Well CA has the most Obama Supporters, plus they elected Nancy Pelosi, so Id stay clear from there. NC is nice

If I were you, I'd make all of your picks for the same region of the country. When you spread them around like that it says to them that you really don't care where you go. I was in the military a long time, trust me on this.

On a side note, I just got a job working as a civilian at 29 Palms. I'd love to look you up. You could give me the lay of the land so to speak.

My Son is at Pendleton he say's it isn't to bad there the weather is usually nice. One of his friends is at Lejuene and don't really care for it because of the weather. I guess its all in if you like to do training in the warmer weather of Cali. or the miserable cold weather of the East Coast. The odds of you getting to go where you want are pretty slim though, it all depeds on where you are needed, What is your MOS??

Your car was at Autorama and you were not. I was devastated.

As far as picks, either one in VA if you want east coast. Personally, I'd pick Cali. I wouldn't want Jacksonville though.

Miss you, duder.

Good luck man! I hear it is hard to get what you want and you still pretty much end up wherever they want you.

Was that a proposition? :naughty:

J-ville isent that great but the stuff around it rules!!! The outer banks are sweet!!!

My best friend just went from a gunny at cherry point to a warrant officer at Miramar. (he is currently at Quantico going thru W.O. school)

Alot of my friends are at Pendleton and Miramar and I've been there a few times, they one some of the most amazing places. But the East coast it is. Well, as far as my request goes! The rest of it depends on the monitor who finalizes our PDS. Hopefully hes not some Jackass of a MgySgt and just throws everyone to Oki. I'll be here until August from what I hear. The next class that picks up wont be until Nov and they graduate in Dec so hopefully that isnt the class I pick up in!

Patman, we have a "Dont ask, Dont tell" policy. Kinda scary seeing as how you're coming out here! LoL. But yes, "We can hang in my crib, I will show you my hood!"

Cool, thanks. I'll PM you once I find out when I'm coming out.

Think of going to Oki in the first year like this. When you're ready to get out in 3 1/2 years, it'll be easier trying to find a job when you back in the States. Imaging trying to find a job from overseas.

Besides, you can buy all your bad ass TV/stereo stuff in your first year, during the October sale.

Put 150 bucks away in an allotment during that year and use it for a vehicle when you come back to the states.

What's you MOS?
