Slave Labor?

That reminds me of a story. My fiance had a guy drop off a resume that said:

A) He couldn't sit down for a long time because of his back
B) He couldn't stand up for a long time because of his back
C) He couldn't do physical labor because of his back
D) He wouldn't work for less than $25/hr

This was at a construction place...they had that up on the bulletin board for a while

Put it this way, you saved yourself the time and energy of training someone who would end up being unappreciative to have a decent paying job in this economy.

I had a guy come in here and ask if we were hiring. We're taking apps as we'll be expanding a bit in the near future but don't know an exact time. I tell the guy this and he says "Well, I don't want to waste my time."

Uhh, what, putting in an application is a waste of time?

Nice.

Sorry bud, just ran out of applications.

Sound's like that individual was probably in a high paying union and got laid off. I will do actual slave labor for $25/hr. Literally I will wear a loin cloth and you can whip me for that kind of money.

Was about to say he must have been union...

I would have a hard time doing my job for $25 hour but if I was out of work for 2 years and had room to grow once my skills were proven, I would probably take it :)

sounds like he did you a favor. Somebody who behaves like that during the interview process would be a cancer to your business. Be glad you saw the warning signs so early and so bright.

entitlement mentality, obviously has more to learn than just a few skills...

yep!

I wouldn't by choice go that low... Not saying this is for every business, but I have found that when you are hired in as a trainee or intern spot it makes it very difficult to achieve that financial status you were "talked" to about during the hiring process because they often throw in any and all hiccups/lack of experience tactic when it comes time to increase the pay. You basically have to kiss major ass and take a lot of shit for a while (1+ years) in order to get a small, almost unnoticeable, increase.

20/hr is fair for trainee/workers for this type of job and 25/hr is proper for someone with prior exp and or knowledge (degree/certs)

It IS a CNC position and not an assembly line or auto mechanics type of job

Nope...Mechanics (good to decently good ones) make almost double that in a dealer. Hell one tech in a belle tire i worked at made 65,000 easily.

I would contact Michigan unemployment offices and let them know he declined employment.
10-1 says hes collecting unemployment compensation.

This is what I was thinking. And his payment is probably close to that already and he doesnt have to do shit to get it.

Heck, I have over 15 years CAD experience, way to many certs, used to have a job paying $40+/hour, and now I don't make what that job was offering. But I know the times and I also know a trained monkey could do most of what I do.

I've had a few job offers that were a little lite financially. I politely declined and thanked them for their time. It never occured to me to say something like that. After two years of being unemployed, I would have thought he would jump at it. He could always take a higher paying job if he found it, but damn. Heck I'd ALMOST move back for $20 Hr while training in that kind of position.

Kinda funny that someone would be out of work for 2 years and turn that down. Doesn't unemployment cap out at like $364 per week?

Hell that's twice what I make and I at least know how to talk during an interview.

I'd close down my business for that kind of money.. not dealing with all the bullshit and having a good steady paycheck it would be worth it. Should have bitch slapped the idiot. :slap:
