...thin paint. This is going to be fun. Engine bay, door jams, water channels (around trunk), interior, wheels, exhaust tips, and decontamination (washing / claying) are all done. Polishing and sealing tomorrow!

Thanks, but we wore full military spec decon coveralls with appropriate booties, gloves, and external respirators.

FWIW, specific issues relating to Mexican midget hookers are kept confidential with clients. You're in good hands Dan!

That's some funny shit guys!

I just want to say that the guys at AutoLavish have been a pleasure to work with so far (nice enough to let me drop my junker off at 9pm Sunday night)

I can't wait to see the finished product!

Cannot wait to read this write-up. It's going to look far, far better than new.

What's up with the paint readings? I don't think I've seen any that low posted on detailing forums (never read a paint's thickness myself).

We're WWWAAAAAYYYYY behind on write-ups (have worked on at least 20+ cars that aren't posted but will narrow that down to around 5 good write-ups or so), but this will surely get posted here.

The thickness readings are low (pic posted showed total thickness in the 85 micron range), but keep in mind the ultrasonic thickness gauge shown is reading the clear-coat separate from the e-coat+primer+base. The hood, pillars, trunk, and spoiler aren't metal, so it takes a different device to read on them.

85-90 microns is spot on for a factory black paint job(non high end vehicle), phosphate+ecoat+primer=1 mil(25.4 microns) black BC= .3-.5 mil max (10-12 microns) 1k clearcoat 2-2.2mils max(50-56 microns).

Great info and post, and this can be stock by all means, but from my experience, it's surely on the low end. Porsche and Honda usually spread paint quite thin on their cars, but their readings are still usually in the 95-115 range. Many domestics we've experienced tend to run in the 120-150 range from the factory. While it's not completely unusual to have reading under 100, it's certainly quite thin.
The good news is that the aren't huge inconsistencies in this paint job: general areas are thin, not specific spots. The car is overall in good condition and we'll see how the paint comes around with a little massaging.

Cell phone 50/50 shot to come... stay tuned...
