It's that time again, folks. Another Thunderdrome! is here next Saturday, September 15th, 2012 at 6:00PM.

Most of you know what we're all about, but for those that don't: We excavated a once-abandoned velodrome on Detroit's east side and we hold two races a year on it to raise money to continue fixing up the track. We race mopeds, scooters, pit bikes, go-karts, bicycles and all sorts of other wonky stuff. It's a real racing series with awards, prizes and glory. We're lighting the entire track this time, which will make for an absolutely surreal experience.

Details can be had here: http://thunderdrome.com/dorais-velodrome-september-15th-2012/

To facilitate you crusty guys getting up and actually racing - or just showing up to watch and swill some suds, I've made the coupon code "TERKERJERBS" for you that you can use to get $5 off any tickets (which means free admission!) or racer entry.

Show up. Drink beer. Behold racing.

I didn't even know this place was still there. I thought it got torn out years ago. I grew up about 1 - 1 1/2 miles from there and my buddies and I would ride our bikes over there everyday in the summer and ride all day. It was an awesome expience. We also used to sled down the derby hill in the winter, of course down the back side to get much more speed.

Yup! Most people still think the same thing. Our goal is to eventually repave the entire 'drome and restore the facility with a parking lot, bathroom building and lighting.

Then, it's on to the derby hill. Putting on this event furthers both funding and awareness.

let me know when you start this ill help

x2 on any efforts with the derby hill. I will help how I can track building. When it comes to helping with the work of running a proper double phase, double elimination derby race though, that's where helping how I can turns into get ahold of me and I'll make shit happen. I think Jim experienced that in the second to last Detroit Metro local the second day. Unfortunately I had a commitment that in hind sight was a waste of time that prevented me from helping with their last one. I miss the announcing, doing heat sheets, calling cars part of helping with derby races. I would love to see a race back in the area.

I believe a lot of folks would. Once we form the conservancy, we'll actually take possession of the park and be able to make write offs for any donations companies make to us. (Paving, etc.)
