School me on Galaxies

No he wont sell it, he love's that thing. He just bought some new wheels & had a new exhaust bent up for it. He was still able to find headers for it!

I wouldn't sell it if I were him either.

If you can get a good deal on a 6 cylinder, why not? Swap in what you want.

Don't really have the space to take on a project like that at this time. And I would wanna swap in a coyote/ 4.6 DOHC or LS swap it :naughty1: which would cost more than buying a V8 car for the time being.

buying a car like this ... I would want it to be unique... a pure cruizer inline 6 with a 3 speed on the column are great drivers
wagons are not race cars
my Mercury is a driver ... the new engine Im assembling for it is being built for torque not horsepower Im after drive-ability not speed

I assumed the brown Montego sold cuz I couldn't find it back. The blue galaxie I have been thinking about

68 Montego is SWEET!

There comes a point where the lack of power negates any fun you can have cruising and the sub 150 HP inline 6 in a full size wagon is way passed that point.

I also disagree that wagons aren't race cars :)

I agree with all three points. My first vehicle in high school was a 4 cyl automatic ranger. I think I could've ran a quarter mile faster than that thing. It was down right torture. I'll never willingly do that to myself again. lol

Buy the 65 I need the Air Cleaner for my Mustang ll

Don't think I'll buy the blue 65. He says there is a couple bubbles of rust not broken through yet and the tailgate looks junk in the pics he sent me. Not really worth anywhere near the price he wants for it IMO.

Got more pics of the Montego and paint is pretty dull looking and he says that the rust is "Nothing bad for 48 year old car..." which to me is pretty open to interpretation. And he didn't send pics of any rust after me asking for them.

Having a 68 Torino, I know they are pretty bad for floors and behind the wheel wells in the front fenders. Just FYI for any other 68/9 mid size (uni-body) wagons you may run across (like the Montego). If you are looking in person these shouldn't be areas you would miss looking at any car so more of an FYI if you are asking for pics of specific areas prior to taking the time to go look in person.

Thanks for the good info. I assumed the floors for any classic car, but not the wheel well area.

Side topic, did/ are you doing a Mustang 2 suspension on the front of your torino for the DOHC?

It isn't really just the wheel well area that rusts. It is the whole lower fender between the wheel well and the door on those uni body mid sizes.

Yes on the Mustang II. I really thought the engine was going to fit between the shock towers. I got it in there pretty low. Looking at the pic I took it looked like it fit in there, it didn't. Manifolds hit where the towers get double thickness for A arm mounting.

It is sitting on it's wheels in my garage supported by the Mustang II suspension and a triangulated 4 link in the back. Still needs a bunch of other floor work though. Finish the tunnel work to go around the T-56, patch for rust on the passenger side, modify that area the seat mounts to get the seats lower in the car. It's all Rod and Custom Motorsports stuff. Great guys to deal with. Highly recommend.

That's going to be a sweet car when done. Similar to what I would wanna do with whatever I get

That red one at the dream cruise? That thing was sweet.

I wish I had more garage room for a station wagon. Its not pretty but its priced right.

I love the galaxys, my bro has a 64, I'm going to get a 65-67 one of these days.

I know frame rot is a huge issue, especially on the mid 60s ones. Check the rear frame on front of and behind the rear axle. Even cars with clean bodies can have ruined frames.
