Saw my first C7 Corvettes on the street today

I live about two miles from the Tech Center, so I see new GM stuff all the time. This morning I was next to two C7s on the way to work for a couple miles and snapped a few pics...I'll add them in my next post as they're on my phone.

Based on my first experience seeing them on the road, here are my thoughts:

1) The back end is one of the ugliest I’ve ever seen on any car…looks cheap, plasticy (if that’s even a word).
2) I like the side view (profile)…sorta
3) Front is so-so…but almost looks like a cheap kit car when you see it coming at you
4) Tires are too skinny (I know it supposedly out handles a C6, gets better economy, etc.)…but they are TOO SKINNY
5) Rims are blah
6) Better be damn fast…did I mention how ugly the back end is?
7) It looks Japanese…in a cheap/ricer way
8) I can think of many ways I'd rather spend $60k...in fact, I'd much rather buy a new Z/28 (based on the show car) before I'd get a C7
9) Will keep saving my pennies for a used C6Z (and I don't care how horrible the seats are, I put Recaros in my mustang...so I know all about shitty seats)
10) Glad I didn't bother going to see it at the auto show

I saw a black M tag car rolling down 696. I tried to race him....but he didn't look interested.

Car looks OK, I'm sure it will grow on me.

Dude, I love it! Might (MIGHT!) be my next car. The more I see it the more I love it. Thanks for posting the pics.

I have no insight into "M" car behavior but I believe those cars are testing for fuel milage. Not only might that explain the "skinny" tires but also why the rear spoiler is missing. I personally hope they sell the car as a spoiler delete option as in the pics. Really shows off the top of the hips. Very nice.

Now I just need to decide on a color. :)

I believe the tires were production intent size, but relative to the rest of the car...they look skinny. Look at a 458 Italia...they look a bit thin as well...but that car has so much sex appeal it's not even funny.

I guess I just have an affinity for big rolling stock and love wide rubber on C6Zs.

I just did a search and found that the tire specs are 245 in the front and 285 in the rear. Yes, that is not very wide. Hmmm. I agree, the more rubber the better.

Pics look sweet.
How does it do on the track compared to the C6 GS and C6-Z?
Smaller tires = less money. The wide tires in the Z look nice, but are spendy. $1,600+ for a set.

I feel a little dumb for asking this, but are these just "base" models? Are they planning on a Z06 version at some point, or is that the Stingray? I'm a little confused with the lineup with the C7, I guess. Maybe the performance version (Z06 or whatever they come up with) will have wider tires, and they just figure anyone buying the normal 'vette would be fine with the tires being a little smaller?

Seen one just a bit ago, not a fan. The windows on the side and the back end just ruined the car. Front end is great, inside is awesome, rear just ruined the entire car.

Typically, wider tires mean greater rolling resistance and greater wind resistance (again, typically). And with the big push for fuel economy, narrower rubber will definitely help (but supposedly it doesn't degrade the handling relative to the C6...at least according to GM). But I haven't seen any real performance numbers published yet either.

I haven't seen anything on a "Z" model yet...or a "ZR-1" ish model yet either. But surely they are coming.

Typically vehicles take a while to grow on me if I'm on the fence about the styling. But this one is gonna take a while. A really long while.

There's a base and a Z51 option at launch. Z51 is like the outgoing GS but with more performance options.

I've seen a few now. Front and sides are good. Rear doesn't impress me with the diaper. Tails look odd, but have grown on me a bit.

Whats up with GM and catfish mouth? The front kills it for me. I could live with the back, the side profile looks great to me, but that damn big mouth. Ughhh.

Those were not out for fuel economy testing, all of that testing is done on dyno rolls with precise measurements of the emission(even in fe tests) I ran hundreds of those tests when I worked in development. They could have been out getting street miles for a variety of final checks and/ or troubleshooting, could be as simple as chasing a squeak. They may simply have been out for evaluation. Some engineers have favorite roads to evaluate, looking for whatever they are looking for. There are replicas of certain roads on the grounds for the ride guys. Sometimes we have drivers just out driving them to log miles. There's been a bunch of new GM pickups cruising Mound, saw some out there last night.

I see Chrysler vehicles out in groups all the time around Auburn Hills, especially on Telegraph, heck I saw some Dodge trucks with yes trailers in 75/Baldwin area this afternoon. One had a ballasted trailer with a 8'x5' flat panel to simulate the front of an enclosed trailer. See stuff all the time.

C5 base tires were 245 and 275 front rear, and those were Eagle F1's iirc. Not incredible tires, certainly by today's standards.
