salvage/ rebuilt title ?

Look at the Frame and body lines really good also inside of the doors and trunk area if the people that put it together are good than youll probably have no worries but if they were some hacks it will be obvious. Also see if they will tell you what the Salvage damage to the car was because the orignal salvage title had a listing of what was non salvagable/non repairable and you can look at the exact repair. If its Flood Damaged ck like wiring connectors and computers for signs of water corrosion. Good Luck!!!

depends on the type of car it is and how old for me. If its just a 3-4k daily driver I wouldnt worry about it if its something newer i wouldnt touch it. if it gets totaled or stolen most insurance companies will only give you about half of what its worth.

agreed

I drive a salvage title car everyday and it's great. Not sure why it was totaled out but it must have been repaired well. I'd drive the car to California right now.

Agreed. This question comes up from time to time on here. I would also recommend checking to make sure the safety equipment is intact and no trouble codes are present. The parts required to be replaced listed on the title are pretty vague. In my opinion, a salvage/rebuilt can be good buys if the price is right.

That pretty much sums it up.... Sometime you get lucky and sometimes you dont. I have a 2002 beetle with a rebulit title and it's a good car.

My wifes car is a 07 G6 with a salvage title and it's insured for our purchase price. I would expect this to reduce as the car ages.

My wife drives nearly 40K a year and buying a new car doesn't make sense, a new car would be junk in short order. As long as the car is assembled right I see no problem with them. We always plan on driving them into the ground so resale isn't important.

I'm assuming you have a lien on the car then? If not please let me know what insurance company you use because i couldn't get state farm to cover my mustang for what its actually valued at i'm going to end up having to use haggerty. I talked with a lot of insurance companies on my mustang and nobody but haggerty would insure it for a value and not whatever their books say its worth unless I had a lien on the title then they could cover it for that value.

my old foreman at work had a clean michigan title but it was totaled in another state they gave him half what he should of got for what he thought was a clean title.

Id rather buy a salvaged titled car that was totaled 10 years after it rolled off the lot, then a $30k car that got $22k worth of damage driving off the on day one.... and then fixed.

You have to do the investigation on what happened.

No, no lien on the car, I didn't think you could get a loan for a car with a salvage title. :dontknow: We have All State, they said they couldn't cover it for "blue book" but after seeing the car would cover it for our purchase price which was probably between 1/2-2/3 of book.

Salvage Title cars can be great buys. I prefer to buy them fresh off of the accident/incident and do the repairs or have them done myself. I bought this Salvage Title 2004 Marauder about 4 years ago It had 34000 miles on it and ran great. No air bags blown no damage beyond the front tie bar and radiator.

Nice! do you still own the Marauder? If you sold it, how did that turn out?
(or if you want to sell it let me know). Where did you buy it?

Do you still have the original wheels for it?

I sold it last year to a guy that pretty much hounded me about the car for a year with the original wheels and tires. I took the car to Grosse Pointe police for the salvage inspection took that paperwork to SOS and had it processed for a new title

I bought a miata off auction that had a salvage title. When I transferred it, it came back as repaired. The only thing with the car was the frame had a little bit of a twist in it, and I meant a little. I ended up driving it around for a bit and then sold it to a buddy for a good deal. Wasn't a bad car but then again it was in an accident.....so basically what I'm getting at is I would only get a salvage/rebuilt if the price REALLY reflects it, generally at least 30-40% under what they are going for otherwise if they do have a rebuilt title.

I agree with the consensus here: salvage title cars can be a good buy if you find one that was not hit that hard. It is really vehicle dependent. Keep in mind, the car has been in an accident and absorbed a far amount of energy. If only replaceable parts are damaged, you are good to go. If it was body structure that was damaged, I would stay away.

From an insurance point of view, salvage title vehicles are worth 1/2 of blue book value. Some insurance companies will not insure a vehicle that had a salvage title. Check with your insurance before purchasing. I do not know of any banks or credit unions that will make a loan on a salvage title vehicle.

Watch out for out-of-state vehicles that have salvage titles: some states WILL NOT let them be re-registered at all. Michigan and Ohio both will allow you to re-register them after they receive a safety inspection once the repairs are complete. I know Ohio issues a rebuilt title once the repairs are complete: I am not familiar with the process here in Michigan.

Both of our daily drivers are salvage titles. My truck I could see why cause the frame was tweaked. It simply pulled back out, but insurance companies are making shops replace frames nowdays. No pulling is allowed. I have a Grand Prix also which should NOT have had a salvage title. It only need a core support, hood and cover. It was hit over the rails, didn't touch the front rebar or fenders. I replaced it in my garage at home, welded it up...done. I'm into both our cars for HALF of what I could go buy one off of Auto Trader. Matter of fact....I could have 3 of my trucks for what a clean titled truck would have cost me.

I prefer doing the repairs myself as the above member said. I don't buy hard hits that are salvage titles....only something that can be fixed without a frame rack, or if it's a full frame....something that can be pulled quickly and easily.

I also drive a salvaged titled car everyday. I rebuilt it myself. not really sure why it was salvaged to begin with, but oh well. has been somewhat of a reliable car.
