S10 vibration

My truck a little vibration problem. It is not really bad but it is noticble and not normal. It seems to be speed related it starts be more noticable at 40 mph or so. I checked the u-joints and they are tight, there was a slightest amount of play at the transmission slip joint. I checked around up front at the wheel bearings. The bearings are tight, but the tie rod on the right side is loose and needs to be replaced. After checking things out I put new tires on the truck today (they where really worn out already). New tires did not fix the problem. Any ideas? About the truck 1995 S10, 4.3 liter v6, auto transmission, short bed, regular cab, 2wd, about 138,000 miles.

Number of things. Drivesaft. Pinion/axle bearings.

rear drive axles bent? Could be a number of things, but I would look into checking the driveshaft.

Or just sell me the truck.

The weight was still on the drive shaft. When I was checking under the truck yesterday. I blocked the wheel, put the truck in neutral, and tried to rotate the drive shaft be hand. There was a little play in the rear end. As maybe the gears might have worn some? I don't know how much would be normal?

00sonolow ~ I am looking to sell the truck. I need to find another ride first.

my old s10 had a very minor vibration that went away when I replaced the diff(went to a limited slip) The center diff pin was loose in mine

not to be a smart ass but have you had the tires checked? IE re balanced its spring in michigan im sure you have hit a few potholes

These S-10's are common for these vibration issues, if the driveshaft and u-joints are good, then its a problem in the rear axle; diff, axles or bearings. I would pull the driveshaft out, and make sure the u-joints are'nt binding first

x2 its super common.

My s-10 vibrates too, new u-joints, rebuilt trans, tires, rear shoes and drums, still at 60 and 80 it vibrates. Must be a chevy thing.

update

Well sense something being wrong with the rear axle would much more time consuming and costly. I went back and pulled the drive shaft out this time to inspect it. I found that I could move the u-joint at the axle end of the drive shaft by hand. So quick trip up to Best Auto for a couple of u-joints. I put it back together and took it for a test drive. It seems fine now. Of course I forgot to get the front end parts I needed. So another trip to Best Auto tomorrow.
