Royal Oak tint ticket

How much does a window tint ticket cost in Royal Oak? No points, correct?

I got pulled over on Woodward two Fridays ago by a MSP officer and he wrote me a fix-it ticket for the front side windows on my Mustang. At that point I had only had the tint (35% on the front sides) for 3 days, so I'm not taking it off. I have until the 23rd to take care of it.

After court fees up here I believe it's like $100+. No idea what it would be down there.

According to someone else, they think it's around $140 and no points. I'm just going to pay it since this is my first and only ticket for tint, but if I get any more I'll consider taking it off.

I thought I heard somewhere that it stays on your record if you pay it. So basically the police will know you just paid it and are not taking it off, so they will try to fuck you every chance. The tint law is a joke IMO. I've gotten busted twice for it with 20% on my truck.

You got the ticket from the State Police, not Royal Oak Police, right? Try this:

Yeah what he says...you got the ticket from MSP it has nothing to do with Royal Oak (except that you were in their city when it happened)

Maybe they fuck with people with tint because they are breaking the law :dunno: Doubt it has anything to do with previous tickets.

No, you're missing what I'm saying. By paying the ticket instead of correcting the problem, they will assume he's not a "law abiding citizen." Therefore, he will be a target for another tint ticket, and possibly other tickets which they may have over looked had he just fixed the issue. Police do not like to be challenged. By not fixing it, it's basically challenging them. Been there done that. Like I expressed previously, I understand it's the law, but a very unnecessary one in my opinion.

Tint is not going to stop a criminal from making there next move, so I do not understand the reasoning behind it "making it safer" for the "man". If the police officer pulls over a vehicle with/out tint for "breaking the law" and the subject in the vehicle knows that if they are identified then the end result will end in a great chance of harming that officer. Tint doesn't hide a gun tucked in the door aiming at the approaching law enforcement and to think it does is ignorant/naive.

Tint ticketing is just a revenue opportunity.

I agree 100%. If a cop is in fear of his safety, why not call for backup or perform a felony stop if the license comes back suspect?

Personally I think it's more of a lets see what's up with the driver stop than anything else.
I was stopped in Fraser with Tint, no seat belt and not using my turn signal and still drove off without a ticket so maybe I'm just lucky but I've never gotten a tint ticket. :D

The driver of a car is not always who the vehicle is registered too. Im not agreeing or disagreeing with the tint laws in Michigan but it does increase officer safety if he can see you hands through the window when walking up to the car. With Tint he may not be able to see you hands and might miss the bad guy reaching for a gun untill its too late.

I'm with you, but for a guy who has his hands on the wheel, keys out of the ignition, and all windows down, why nail him for the fine? Why are we one of seven (I think) states that do not allow front window tint? Seems more like a revenue generator than a deterrent.

True, but he said I would have to go to Royal Oak courthouse to pay it, which is why I thought to look on their website (which gave me no info).

I'm still going to just pay the ticket and be done with it. IMO this was just an 'opportunity' ticket; he originally stopped me for having smoked taillights (bought the car like that) and when he walked up to my car he saw that I also had tinted front windows. I also know plenty of people who have had front window tint for quite a while and they never get hassled for it.

Why didn't you just have the windows down to avoid the hassle?

They've asked me to roll them up to check.

I got fucked on that when I was younger. Had a cop sitting on a Harley (drinking a Slurpee nonetheless) pull me over later on (I passed him with all my windows down) and ask to roll them up. Didn't think anything of it. What started as a license plate cover ticket turned into a tint one. Total bullshit.

The MSP are the worst for tint, they will pull you over soley for that reason. I was questionably hassled/harassed after leaving the rencen one day and got a ticket from Ethan Hawk and Denzel Washington. I've had pretty good dealings with cops, but these two were shade trees. Anyway, with MSP you have to go to their court and prove you took it off, paying a fine wasn't an option or I would have just done that. Not sure if it's still that way, but was 3 yrs ago when I had my encounter.
