ROPD Woodward Parking Ticket Harassment

dont bother fighting it, Unless the tint is on you license as a restriction, its illegal, Dr note dont mean shit

I have some extenuating circumstances that prevent me from having that on my license. I do vehicle calibration for a living, drive m-plate vehicles which I have no control over. If I put it on my license under the corrective lenses section I can get a ticket in a work car for not having corrective lenses if the officer wanted to be not friendly... I've never had this issue in 15 years. First time however I didn't have all my paperwork in my car with me.

I would like to be able to represent this situation in person vs. some BS letter is all.

Unfortunate you got a ticket at Vitamin Shop. I pulled into the lot saturday night, and was sitting in my car waiting for a buddy to show up. Random guy runs up and tells me about a cop giving out tickets for parking, he had just got one. That lot seems pretty tame, so not sure if the owners have been complaining.

Did the tint law change? Before they it wasn't a first offfense(couldn't pull you over just for tint)

Yeah it did change I thought about ~5 years ago or so.

I have tint on my car, and about 5 years ago, it did change, at least according to the police that started pulling me over on a more regular basis. The upshot at the time seemed to be this:
  • We will pull you over now, just for tint.
  • It will be a 2 point ticket
  • A doctor's note is fine, but we may not accept it (and occasionally they didn't - I got two tickets (one State Trooper, one Huntington Woods, even though I had a signed note)

So I got the restiction on my license....haven't been pulled over since.

Section E of the tint law says that your fine with a Dr note. I've had to fight this is court before as well.

(e) A special window treatment or application determined necessary by a physician or optometrist, for the protection of a person who is light sensitive or photosensitive, if the owner or operator of a motor vehicle has in possession a letter signed by a physician or optometrist, indicating that the special window treatment or application is a medical necessity. However, the special window treatment or application shall not interfere with or obstruct the driver's clear vision of the highway or an intersecting highway.

Not sure if the law changed or they started to write it up different. I have been pulled over for tint and issued a "defective equipment" ticket, which was a fix-it and a signature away from getting resolved. Recently, its been a "obstruction of view", which is a 2-point ticket. State cops love to write that one.

itd def be cheaper for me to park and get the $10 ticket than it was for me to cruise around all night on $8/gallon race gas

I realized it was a $50 ticket and not a $10 ticket. I didn't read the whole schedule on the back originally, just glanced at it and saw $10.

fight it yourself, no need for a lawyer...unless you want to make big changes.

That's really my plan, to fight this ticket on my own, if it ever gets in the system. Was just kind of wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on a bigger picture scale since someone else had brought it up. There were people on here I thought might chime in with something interesting that posted in this and didn't.

Not sure if this would be the correct forum to bring it up in, but maybe at a city council meeting when they open it up for public comment you could mention what is going on with the police department and the courts. Make sure to mention it seems like a scam to force people to pay the tickets instead of fight/dispute.

What a joke. I love how the State cops and the Wayne County Sheriff will go out of their way to pull people over wasting time to write window tint tickets but it is ok for all of their unmarked vehicles to have limo tint on ALL of their windows. The Wayne County Sheriff drives a blacked out newer Camaro and Challenger.

Yup no front window tint here, the less meetings with the police the better for me.

Shit a few years ago I had both my front windows down all the way and still got pulled over for tint because my rear window was tinted.
He pulled me over and asked me if my front windows were tinted, I said no, he said roll em up, I said their broken, then he got mad and threatened me with some other shit. So I rolled em up, he called me a liar and wrote me a ticket. I didn't know cops came with x-ray vision now-a-days. Luckily back then it was only a fix it ticket... now its points and a fine? WTF

You will no longer see any undercover state police cars with window tint. About a year ago it was decided the tint was in violation of the law and they had no reason to have it based on the laws. My father's repair shop in Redford is contracted to work on MSP cars. He peeled tint off of 15+ undercover cars in one week.

I do like the idea of going to a city counsel meeting and discussing it with the board members. I mean this is the same road that inspires millions to come visit it in August... can't blame us for wanting to be out on it all year long!

it's usually a fix it ticket around here. my buddy has an extra set of door glass and just swaps them around when he gets a ticket.

Mine was written as 'Illegal Window Film (Non-Waivable)'.... dick move I would think... Especially when I got out of the car on the side of 696 to explain why I have the doctor note and why it wasn't in the car... Regardless I will get stuck with ticket since it was not in car.. I now have a scaled down copy in my wallet. Let him get the magnifying glass out ;)

Starting to sound a lot like Roseville cops patrolling Gratiot back in the day. They see it as an opportunity to draw in revenue and will do anything within their means to write tickets. It's job security for them. Not that I agree with it at all. :bs:
