A friend of mine has a 6 point roll bar in his car that was installed when he got the car and was told it is chromemoly but what if it isn't because now we were going to add the halo and down bars to make it pass tech into the 9's. So what I am asking is what if it is mild steel and we get a chromemoly halo kit to add to it would it pass tech or if we installed a mild steel down bars and just mig weld them in I do know that chromemoly has to be tig and not mig welded. Just looking for some ideas on what to actually use in this instance.
if you do one or the other tig or mig it

Check it with a magnet. If it sticks its mild steel if it doesn't stick it is moly. You can weld moly to steel but it must be tig wleded due to the annealing that will happen if you mig weld it. you should be able to halo your 6 point just use mild steel if its mild steel.you'll save 10lbs tops

Dunno sean the magnet sticks to it, but it also sticks to my anti roll bar and that's moly.

Maybe lightning jeff can chime in. I think he had it installed or someone owned this car he knew?

you have all this highly qualified people working on it, that S.O.B. better run 8.50's :ohnoes:

Who's working on it???
My motor is torn apart in the garage. I'll be putting it together saturday just went to mayfairs and ordered all the stuff to assemble it, the trans is the only thing someone will have to do

idk? but it better be fast!

I have a really strong mechanics magnet and it just barely grabs my 4130 chromoly bicycle. I dunno does it grab it really hard ?

I can tell a diffrence between the two, the roll bar grabs harder than the anti roll bar, Mines a pretty heavy duty magnet also.

So I'm guessing it's safe to assume it's mild steel and i should be ok to mig it.

Sounds like mild steel.

If you guys want to tig in moly pieces I have the conversion pieces to finish a bar to a cage. I was going to do mine then had Stenod do it so I still have the pieces. It was bought from S&W and it's "through the dash".

If interested let me know and I'll shoot you a price.
