any of you guys ever go to the road racing track in clarkston was thinkin about checkin it out next year was wondering how it was.

Several of us are instructors, owners, and/or participants with 3BallsRacing. We do track days at Gingerman, Grattan, and Waterford Hills. Check out www.3ballsracing.com for more info. Obviously we're done for this year but come hang out with us next spring.

i would love to get into road racing, but it seems like it would be expensive

What form of racing isn't expensive? The track OP mentioned is called Waterford Hills and I've heard many people say it isn't the best track for a newbie. I've taken my G8 GT out to WHRW on a few club rentals and it was a freaking blast.

I've spewed this in the past but I doubt I'll ever go drag racing again. I know my next track car will be a road race car. I burned a half tank of gas at my first rental and could have had more time on the track. I fried my brakes and loved every minute of it. My last test n tune at Milan I was there for 6 hours (in my 04 Mach 1 - RIP) and had 4 runs. I missed a shift on one of the runs so I had 3 full runs. The rentals are more costly than most drag events but look at the track time and it's very challenging.

So I'm a total rookie but MTM has some great road racer dudes, hopefully more of them will give their 2 cents.

yeah id totally be down to check it out next year. is there any advice as to how to set a car up for road racing you could give me.

What type of car? In general you just need to make sure that everything is in good working order, brake fluid is fresh, and your brake pads have plenty of material left. Work on the nut behind the wheel before you start throwing go-fast parts at the car.

Get the rules for the group you plan on running with. Waterford Hills has their own race series and runs off SCCA rules. These rules can be downloaded off of the SCCA website (look for club racing). The best group to run in is Improved Touring. Large fields and inexpensive cars. Nothing like going out with 40 of your best friends.

i have a 66 mustang coupe its still being built so i was thinkin about building it more towards road racing than drag racing. i would probably just be goin to open track race days and go from there.

open tracking is a lot of fun and very addicting...

i would probably go just as a spectator to one of 3 balls rentals, or an open track day at waterford, to get a feel for what it's like. you may talk one of the instructors/more experienced people into letting you ride with them for a couple laps. you'll get a good feel for braking points and where you should apex corners and such.

after that, take your car out to the next event and have some fun! go slow your first few laps while you get used to the car and the tires come up to temp, and then start working on your lines.
