When I come home May 13th I'll be having a reputable professional shop (undecided right now) install 4.10s and a tractionlok rebuild kit in my mustang's rearend. How long does an install usually take?

depending..ring & pinion & bearings, 1 person, 2-3 hours total.
track loc rebuild, depending on how fussy you do it. to do it properly you need to build one side at a time and shim it properly. that takes time. just changing clutches takes 15 minuets.
cheep ring & pinions are sometime also harder to set up. and sometime you never get a good pattern.
all in all, you should be able to drop it off in the morning and pick it up before the end of the business day.
note: new ring & pinions require a break in period, before long trips or drag racing.

new ring & pinions when installed warm up very quickly. continued driving will drive the temp well above 300 degrees( i have seen some rear axles actually glow, and melt the rear brake line right off), breaking down the gear lube. i usually recommend a week of 10-20 mile trips, allowing the lube to completely cool down between trips. (like driving back & forth to work.) Towing, I like to see 1000 miles. Keep in mind, at the end of your 15 or so mile trip, its hot, so don't go doing burnouts or laying whole-shots. each trip you make the temps will not rise as high. very minimum 2 heat cycles before drag racing.
this process is not mandatory, but what it does is allows the gears to lap together better, the results are a longer lasting and quieter ring & pinion.

Awesome man! Thanks for the advice! Do you install gears?

Interesting...I've never heard that before.
