To give an idea, I just did a 2 way viper alarm an remote start with 1 mile range and remote that has led screen for 350. damn good deal as most places wanted mid to high 400s.

I had a 2010 Fusion with a remote start. My advice is to go with a whatever one has longest range. I had Auto 1 in Wixom install mine, service and price was decent. It was close to my house. I think it will be similar at most places unless you want to help out a specific business or you get a killer deal.
No range issues Mine worked from in my house to the driveway or in the office to my car about at least 200' away.
I've seen others that didn't have the same range. Also if there are a lot of things (walls, hills, a big truck parked next to it) between the remote and your car the range is reduced.

Viper makes a decent product but the warranty blows, they cover that plastic $100 remote for 1 year against mfg. defects and the "lifetime warranty " on the main module has an " upcharge " i.e., price of a new unit for the replacement if the unit goes bad. As far as the price It would depend on the car but it would be a lifetime warranty unit that covers the entire unit for life and could be around that price

Anyone know what all is involved with installing a remote start unit? Like what you need to take apart? Also, does Viper sell just a remote start? Or is it a remote start, plus an alarm together?

It all depends in the vehicle and what brand you have installed. If I were you I'd go right to the car manufacturer and buy a remote start unit made for your vehicle, units plug and play instead of hacking up wires under the dash, and you won't need a spare key because they use a module instead of a key box under the dash. If it's for a ford, I highly recommend using a factory unit!

Ok. Its for a 2013 GMC Sierra. Could I just contact the dealer for a remote start? I DO NOT want a hacked up wire mess lol.

Smart start end of story. Real simple, vacation last year. I started my truck from Laredo Texas, and my escalade was here in Lincoln Park. Started, locked, unlocked all with no problems. As long as you have signal it will operate, and yes its an annual fee of $50. Mine was $39this year for some reason. I paid a little over $500, but well worth it. Especially while working in a factory about a mile away from your vehicle. I start my truck on the assembly line and by the time I walk to it its toasty. Excellent choice
