so im ordering components to fix my a/c in the grand prix. i went to a shop and they wanted $1000+ to fix it. screw that i can do it my self much cheaper. so i know i need a compressor, condenser and dryer as that is what they quoted me. Im gonna put the parts in myself and then have the shop do the vacuuming and recharge but need to know if there is anything else i will need? do i need any gasket kits or orings or anything else i could be missing?

If there is any refrigerant left in the system before you pull it apart, u should have a shop recover the remaning refrigerant. You will need new correct size O rings for the connections and some PAG oil

shop already vacuum'd the system when they tested it out. which o rings do i need? the dryer and condensor are new from rock auto, would they come with them? do i still need PAG oil if the shop is doing the charging/vacuuming?

$49.00 plus freon.

what is? for you to recharge it? thats not what im asking.

you should replace all the seals you touch in the system. Also since your close if you want a can of flush to clean the system I have a few extras laying around. would not be a bad idea.

The other thing you will want to replace is the orifice tube.

$49.00 to vaccum and leak check plus the freom if you want it services. Include oil etc.

can it be flushed in the car? or do i have to remove all the components and flush individually?

will definitely do the orifice tube after reading up on it.

the shop i go to in south lyon only charged me $30 to vacuum and check for leaks. they said the condensor has a hole in it. they also said when they did have freon in the system that the low and high ports where equal pressure and that usually means a bad compressor. is that true? or could a clogged orifice tube or something cause that condition?

correct, it the compressor slutch is engages, and the presures are the same, it is 99% of the time the compressor

clogged orifice will usually cause a high high side, and a low low side

Thats working for peanuts at $30.

anyways sounds like ya got alot of work to do. GM compressor fialure are far from uncommon and having the same pressure on both sides is typically a sign of a broken compressor.

thanks for confirming that. i had that kit in my shopping cart on rockauto but wasnt sure if that was what i needed.

Any special tools i will need for this job? i have a fuel line disconnect set, not sure if that is used/needed on the a/c lines.

should be all standard stuff. Nothing fancy.

will do thanks.
