recommend a starter gun

With the recent shootings I fear that getting a concealed cary permit will become almost impossible because of litigation etc... I already have read up on Georgia's law and know which states honor the cary permit (Michigan doesn't as an aside). Now I just need to know what's a good personal protection weapon that you'd recommend to someone who honestly has never pulled a trigger in his life. I have 2 indoor gun ranges within 3 miles of my house, so I plan to practice quite a bit. Thanks!

Usually a 9mm is recommended, a little less $$ to shoot than a 40 or 45. Try to rent a few before you buy. Get friends to take you and try a few different models.

Yep, go to those ranges, rent and try out guns. Price ammo, as thats the one thing that gets expensive when shooting regularly. Buy whats confortable for you to shoot, and carry. When it comes to guns, it's a greater debate then the big three with cars!

9mm would be my suggestion, but its really all in what is comfortable to you. I suggest 9mm due to the affordability of the rounds, the capacity of the mags is generally higher so you don't have to re-load as often at the range, and it doesn't have the recoil of a .40 or .45 which you will see as you shoot different firearms.

Happy Shooting!!!

There were a LOT of families at the range today. Mom/Dad and the kids..

Go handle a few, it's not rocket science. It's like buying toilet paper.

Like others have said, rent a few at the ranges, but if something rings your bell, youtube/google search for tests/range reports etc. There are some great and NOT SO great inexpensive pistols out there. Also bare in mind IF you do plan on concealed carry; how will you carry? IWB/OWB, pocket etc.

Also Walmart has brand name bulk ammo for less than most web sites. If you find something you like at one of the local stores at a REASONABLE price, ask them for 3 months unlimited range time as a bargaining chip. (Target Sports does that here).

HK P7 -- high quality, 9mm, grip squeeze (cocking lever) is the safety (no messing with levers), small size is good for CC

Ugh. Really?

G19 or M&P9.

Nick? Where the heck have you been?

I have a glock 23 with a galco king tuck, super concealable, easy to draw. Love it. It was cheap, .40 ammo isn't too expensive either.

I'd pick the cartridge first then go find the firearm. I have settled on .22LR, .40SW, .45ACP, .44 Magnum, .308, and 12 gauge. It makes life simpler.

Check out the Taurus Millennium Pro in stainless, perhaps eyeball the .40SW. Cheap, easy to disassemble, and made of cast and/or forged parts instead of stamped steel.
