Rear end issue

Motown's uber nerd and fav Sweeeeede!
Went to the track yesterday, car ran fine, but I was having traction issues again. Turns out, I had some one wheel spin. :shake:

So, I've decided to get either a trutrac or a detroit locker.

Who here has a locker? If you try to drive it careful through turns, is it easy to keep it from locking all the time?

I totally don't care about noise, but I don't want to do things to it that will cause too much of a strain on axles etc. during normal, non aggressive, driving, while still giving the best performance when I want it to.

The answer to this question depend on ultimate usage for the vehicle. I see you have an 05 mustang which ford put an 8.8 into. the truetrac is a nice driving rear end but durability with a stick shift or transbrake car may not be the best past 11.50 or so. the ford 31 spline tracklok is a good compromise of hook and street manner and will be notchy on tight turns. A locker will be the most aggresive of the bunch on tight and wide radious turns cuasing some front wheel push dependong on front tire selection and driving style.

truetrac is super smooth good for 11.50 reliably.
ford Tracklock is good to 10.90 or so
locker is good for 9.90

anything beyond that will require a spool for maximum longevity. These are safe recomended maximum on my part after collecting up info from racers and drivers over the years.these are the boundrys I have seen on these parts. your results may vary.

Hmm, well, I think it will be quite some time before I have enough stuff in my car for it to go 11s even! That said, my goal is to slowly build it up over the years to come, so when I do put new parts on it, I want to get the best, even if it'll be a long time before I can make full use of it. :)
