Razor question

So, I've been using Gillette Pro glide but the refills are about $20/4 blades. I'm looking for other options. I need a sharp blade or it fucks my skin up. Other brands haven't really worked well (Sheick and electric razors) ... Any advice on a Safety Razor? How about Dollar Shave Club?

I was skeptical or DSC but tried it out. 1st I went with the cheap ones they have. was just ok, so I upgraded to their nicer 4 blade (Not their top of th line one) and it is a decent piece. I am now on the every other month plan and no complaints. Even sent me some free nice manly butt wipes - LOL

Search on Dollar Shave Club. They buy their razors from somewhere else and sell a "service" and "convenience." You can buy the exact same razors for less and skip the marketing cost of their program.

I quit using razors because they fuck my face up, so now I just use a beard trimmer and buzz my face down every Sunday. I had to start shaving when I was 10, and could grow a full beard by the time I was a freshmen. The novelty of having a beard wore off shortly after and now I can't stand having any facial hair.

I believe the DSC razors are Dorco brand.

I usually pick up the ProGlide at Sam's/Costco. Anywhere else and you're paying out the ass for them. I've considered trying a safety razor. One of my friends switched to it, and uses a new blade with every shave, and costs him pennies per shave. He said there's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it, you're set.

Just stop shaving. Beard stigma pretty much erased. I stopped shaving around 2000 for the same reason, and life is much easier not having to dick around with an irritated face/neck all the time. Worst case scenario trim it real short with an electric.

I tried the beard thing. 2 issues, just getting out of the Marine Corps after 5 years of shaving 1-2 times a day was an adjustment. The other (main) issue is that facial hair fucks up the sealing surface on my CPAP mask.

Then there are those of us who can't grow a proper beard and get to choose between razor burn or looking like this guy:

Switch to a double edge safety blade. I use astra superior platinum blades in a Merkur DE safety razor. The blades are super cheap and i have cut out about 75% of the razor burn I used to get. I like Proraso shave soaps as well. The only downside is the time it takes to shave.

Safety razor is the way to go. I switched at the beginning of the year. I use a fresh blade every shave. $0.10 a blade. Little cost up front for a handle and brush. Probably have $50 in startup costs. After that it has paid for itself in a couple months in my case and saves big money thereafter. There is a learning curve as a cut the hell outta my face for a week or two. Now I rarely nick myself, no razor burn. Happy face
