Rant on....Buying a new car

I'm all about buying an American car first as well, but Ken's right. There is NOTHING available in that segment. Impala SS? Are you joking? Ugly...slow...cheap.

The Zephyr is decent looking, but the interior quality is nowhere near. Same with the Lincoln LS. I loved that car while it was in production and actually had one as a company car for a few months. It was nice, but for that money I'd go German every time. Offer a V8 but not with a manual transmission? What a mistake. We just can't get it right in the $35 - 50K sedan area.

I've already suggested the G35, but his wife doesn't want RWD...

How about the AWD G35x? A buddy of mine has one and he really likes it.

I agree that we have nothing in that segment (yet). I really hope that the MKS does well against the "foreign" competitors. It won't hit the streets for another year and a half or so, so you're out of luck right now. Even Car & Driver has the G35 beating the 3-series in their head-to-head competitions within the last year or so.

Ken, what about going with either that new car that you can live in, or one of those new flying cars?:dontknow:

If she doesn't want RWD, check out the new Saturn Aura. It is a very nice car compared to the Impala. Has a lot of sound deadening, nicer interior, etc. And FWD. I thought they would have wanted RWD so I didn't suggest it sooner.

Trading a car in is the worst thing you can do. I had the unfortunate pleasure of selling cars for 6 months....what a fucked up job.

Maybe you just sucked at it. Or maybe your just an asshole. I'm betting it's the latter of the two.

BTW 6 months of selling cars means you know NOTHING about the business. Stick to fucking up LTLHOMER's car.

i know the feeling i tried trading in an 01 sport trac(has 200k miles on it) they offered me 1,000 and said that was a stretch. car runs and looks great to which they complimented. i wasnt impressed.

How do you really feel?:dontknow:

I know it's hard to realize sometimes, but think about it.

1. Would you buy a car with over 100K?

2. If you sold one would you give the buyer any warranty?

Dealers have wholesalers put #'s on cars. They don't want 100k cars on the lot. Your 100k cars end up at Used Lots like the ones you see on Mich Ave. We don't make a killing on those cars. Most times we are happy to break even or loose a couple hundred.

Think about it. That's like someone working at your place for 6 months and acting like they know the business.

I totally agree matt about the experience i'm still quite new to the business and am see different situations everyday. It's all in how you make your experience. I have over a year now in the business 6 months in domestic 6 months in the forgin market.

Why is everyone knocking the Acura TL? I think if more people give evey manfacture a chance they be surprised what they learn.

It really depends on your situation. Selling a car by owner is a huge pain in the ass. It's nice just turning it over to someone else and walking away.

You have to have a certain personality and drive to excel in sales. Most people don't have the right temperament or personality for sales. That isn't a knock against you - all of us excel at different things.

Ouch. I agree that selling stuff is hard and requires the right personality though. As for Matt's comments about taking trade ins, I would think that it would be better for all involved if there were no trade-ins, no? I mean, I don't take trade-ins for crowns and dentures, and I'd assume that if your lot is full of shiny new cars the last thing you'd want from a buyer is their old POS car there. And really the only way it could possibly benefit you, the dealer, positively is to underpay for it. So yeah, put er up on ebay.

Why not just sell it on eBay then??
I will be selling it out right, even if he offered me 8k I'd still sell it myself but he would have had a chance to sell me a new car.

I don't think anyone has knocked the TL, they are just suggesting alternatives. There isn't anything you can say bad about the car except that it's FWD which is a plus for us.

Even though my wife liked the BMW after checking out the 06 & 07 3 series she quickly took it off her list.

I clearly understand the trade thing but the salesperson should have handled it better, I have only traded in one car but it was a used car on a used truck. They probably sold it right out of the lot. It's not the fact that they offered a lowball # but the fact on how low it is. If in fact the car is only worth 4k then I would just keep buying used ones for 4k every couple years.

Did I mention before I left the manager came over and said look I'll show you what the value is on KBB, when I walked over he's like "oh, our network is down"

If he was using Internet Explorer then he might not have been lying. We have had problems with KKB when using Explorer. In fact I have called KBB because of the problem. They are working on it.

Just FYI. I still think they tried to steal the trade.

I'm not sure if it was or not, but he was implying it would varify what they offered:undecided
