like the title says

I picked up a 32 thousand mile 302 and a AOD for my f 100 I plan on adding a 4 v intake and dual glass packs

old small block chevy trick was to swap timing chain does it work on a ford?

I can get my hands on a set of iron heads from a v8 explorer are they worth the time to swap?

fuck you guys

in the late 70's the quick way to wake up a smog motor was to change to a timing chain and gear for a 1960's spec engine it advanced the cam

and are the Iron gt40 heads that are off explorer engines worth using? on a engine without a big cam?

Not worth the trouble for a stock cam, the gt40-gt40P are going to be worth only a little on a stock build as well.

If the iron explorer heads are free or almost free, definitely use them, they are GT40P heads and will wake it up a bit. There is no retard built into the chain if it's a roller cam 302.

the explorer heads require a special header due to plug location and thay are a great factory iron head but not worth the header trouble. yes it should still have a 4 degree off chain. get an aftermarket chain put it in dot to dot and it will pick up a hair.

BBK 1515 unequal length shorties fit, as do the long tube 1516's. On the P heads, if you can find some early explorer 40's (3 bars) you're good to go. On the shorties (with p's) you will have to pull the d/s header to get plug 7 out. On the lt's you have to modify a socket to change plugs. I know for a fact, last year I ran the shorties, this year swapped to the lt's. They are great, cheap heads. I would have to bet even a bit more worth it when comparing the '82 heads he has vs some E7s.
