Questions on Duramax

I am buying a 2001 LB7 Duramax and wanted to know a little about it. What would be the best mods to do without hurting the motor. I will tow occasionally. I was lookin at going with the PPE Xcellerator, Banks air induction, Banks big head waste gate, BD full bore exhaust manifold and hook up pyro, then MBRP turboback exhaust. Any info or suggestions will not be turned away.

Exhaust and controller are the priorities. You have to move that hot air out to take advantage of it all. :)

Turbo really doesn't care too much about the induction/filter setup. It'll spool a touch faster but not much.

The pyro is key if you're going to really turn it up but you can always tap the stockers too. So I wouldn't rush on the manifold right away.

Just remember, when you start making power, the trans is going to be the limiting factor as funny as that sounds on a big old D-truck. :)

Also when you start making power you have to keep an eye on the stock LB7 injectors and you may need to look at a lift pump at some point to toss fuel up if you start to crank it beyond just the PPE settings.

The place to do your research is www.dieselplace.com. It's a good group of racers, pullers and haulers over there. So someone has pretty much done everything you're thinking about at some point. :D

I wish Cummins would sell their engines to every OEM to put in light duty trucks. Or even if CAT did that, that would be cool. I mean you can litterally pick either a cummins, navistar, or CAT if you were to put an order in for a Class 6-8 truck, why not light duty pickups. nice truck BTW

duramax FTW
they do cool burnouts

Well with the exhaust manifold I was reading that the passenger side manifold only flows 80% due to a restriction in the ( I believe) third bank. So along with getting more flow I also don't have to tap the stocker.

Yes, you'll see some improvement. I was really just ranking them more for bang for the buck because it gets expensive to mod two vehicles at a time. :D

Exchaust
Controller
Pyro
Manifold
Intake

Injectors or lift pump as needed. :D

I have all of the above on my 2002 D-Max, minus the BD manifold. The passenger side manifold is the more accurate of the two for pyro placment.
As 2001-WS stated- the biggest limiting factor will be your tranny. The Allison doesn't typically approve when you add 90 or so hp over stock. I never planned on building my trans.....until I started making some power.
Is the truck 2 or 4wd?

I agree with that one, they all make a diesel engine that would work perfect in a medium duty pickup, plus that also gives the chance for alot more stuff to play with and tune into an awesome tow rig..... id love to have a late 90's ford 350 with a big ol CAT diesel in it lol
