Question for you guys re: air compressors.

Say you're a weekend/garage warrior who was given a http://www.bestairnailers.com/bostitch-cpack1850bn-18-gauge-brad-nailer-and-compressor-combo-kit by your wife for Christmas. Would you keep it or exchange it for this... http://www.harborfreight.com/25-hor...-cast-iron-vertical-air-compressor-67847.html I know nothing of Central Pneumatic compressors but the fact that Harbor Freight carries it worries me. While the web has good reviews of the 6 gallon compressor my wife got me, I worry that because of its small size it will never shut off when I do use it. Also, the nail gun it comes with I will NEVER use.

Should I exchange the 6 gallon pancake compressor and get the stand up 21 gallon model shown in this thread?

Return what you have, next save a few more dollars and buy something better than what is in the link. My 0.02

Do NOT buy a Harbor Freight air compressor. Complete junk. Absolute junk. The Husky units from Home Depot are far superior from everything I have seen/read.

Stay away from the ones with plastic pistons.. I snapped a connecting rod on one of those junk compressors... It was less then a year old.

if you are gonna try to run any type of air tool, IMO you will need at least 10 scfm @ 90psi.

Try and invest in a good one. Quality air compressors are one of those things that usually stay with you for life it seems. I would find something with a name brand so you can buy replacement parts for it.

The small pancake compressor will not run air tools very well if at all. I Used one and with a 1/2" impact and I could barely get lug nuts off. I could only get one lugnut off at a time and then I had to wait for the compressor to fill back up to do one more lug nut. I stopped and used a 4 way instead.
Also, that HF compressor you linked to is junk. HF does carry Campbell Hausfeld and those are pretty good for middle of the road.

Take it back and go to sears site on-line and look under clearance section, may take a month but you will eventially find a craftsman (Preferably belt driven) compressor at a good price.

Do NOT get an oil free unit........they are the loudest most obnoxious compressors around. Your ears will thank you.

They are def not quiet, but unless you are pushing it hard it wont run constantly.

Agreed. I use mine as a weekend warrior and I let the tank fill up and shut off before I use it. I can get through all four wheels of a brake job, including cleaning up the hardware, checking tire pressures, blah blah blah....and not have it turn on to compress more the entire time.

What about the two 20 gallon (vertical or horizontal) Craftsman compressors Sears has in stock right now?

What about the two 20 gallon (vertical or horizontal) Craftsman compressors Sears has in stock right now?

Is it belt driven or oil free?

As others have stated unless you plan on putting it in another room I would stay away from the oil free untis. If you use it on anykind of regular basis you will get tired of the noise quickly
