I have a system I use for a media center but it has a pirate XP PRO on it and It's annoying that the WGA notifier pops up.

I just want to get a new legit key and change it.

I know i can use the MSOOBE command and change the key in there im just catching trouble finding a legit key.

Does anyone have a legit key they could sell me?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a good time to pick up Windows 7. The system builder disc/key is really reasonable. Other than that, Linux :D

I was tossing around the idea of unbuntu but i really would like windows.

I may just do the windows 7. I bought vista a while ago for my gaming rig and it came with a free upgrade to 7 which i have the cd for now but just dont feel like doing it haha.

In the mean time if i can save some cash and get a key for XP pro for cheap id like to just do that.

ubuntu is the way I would go, it mounts your hard drives for you and is easy to use in the networking dept too one of the best distro's ive messed with

Ubuntu is great, but since its a media center, I highly suggest XBMC Live. Itll do far more than Windows could ever hope to as far as a media center is concerned, plus its extremely light on hardware. It plays any codec, has a very nice dashboard, and best of all, its free. XMBC is a native Linux distro. You dont even need to use the Live version, you can run it within Ubuntu, OSX, or Windows.

Another vote for ubuntu. I have my laptop setup for dual boot Win7/Ubuntu and I love it. I can still run windows programs when I need to (itunes, couple games) but get to use a real OS the rest of the time. Download and burn Ubuntu and play with it. You can use it without changing anything on your computer.

Or do like the rest of the cheaters and just go up to a computer store that still has computers with XP pro on it. Then take a picture of the key. Instant win. But if your caught, be prepaired to pay out the nose. Cheaper to just buy a legit copy of 7 and keep it for ever.

Qand if your so into doing bad things with software, windows 7 has a version out there that if you follow the instructions works perfectly. But this will eventually have the same risk and issues that XP pro has now.

Whichever way you decide to go, stop on in to Lombardo Computer Services, 150 S Main, Rochester MI :-D (or since its far, just have Tony make me go to your house) Linux these days is really user friendly. Things like getting flash, codecs, and especially java working properly take a few extra keystrokes, but for free, and being 99.9999% safe against any ****-site you may want to visit, its a definite winner. I've never really been a fan of Windows, especially after Vista, but they REALLY did a nice job with Windows 7. I used to use about 95% Linux, and 5% Windows. After Windows 7, its more towards 50/50

I have 40 or 50 real legit copies of XP Home and Pro. What kind of computer do you have? I might have the legit recovery media that won't ask for a key.

you can change your key i n the registry..i know there's a few write ups on line i gotta find them. I think you can buy an xp key cheap too?

wow thats a lot of keys. I built this machine myself so i dont think any branded (sony etc) will work. BUT I do have a Toshiba laptop (M45-S165) that has a xp home key on it i just need the recovery media.

Yeah I'm really considering linux but ive been a windows user for every build ive done. If i can find a key for free/cheap that works then ill be happy.

I switched from full-time Windows to full-time Linux cold turkey. Aside from the GUI, Linux and Windows have nothing in common. The switch was very hard for me, being so used to Windows. Ive found the less computer literate people to pick up Linux faster than the geeks, since they dont know much about the inner workings of an OS. As long as they can check their MyFace or e-mail, theyre happy...most dont even know theyre not using Windows. For somebody like you, who knows their way around Windows good, Linux will probably be harder for you to pick up, as it was for me. Once you get into the swing of Linux, youll discover the hundreds of shortcomings of Windows. The only place I find Linux suffers is for more professional grade software and gaming. If youre not a Photoshop or Protools junkie, Linux is very hard to beat. I use Linux for about 95% of my computing, only running Windows in a virtual machine so I can use Adobe software.

I sell a lot of Windows Discs. I have home and pro OEM keys brand new, sealed with the CD, but no retail keys. If you want a copy, send me a pm.
