Okay dudes and dudettes. The title say's it all. It all started last Tue. when I had to go to the hospital. Went out to start the car and weak battery. I tried to pry off the hot lead cover to jump but broke the whole friggin hookup out of the battery. :dontknow: Just got to working on it yesterday by tearing apart. Got new battery and hot lead today. Froze butt and feet but did install. All to no avail, NOTHING.

I pulled all fuses. Nothing. There is absolutely NO power to anything, NOTHING! Any ideas? Anything I may have missed? Possible BAD new battery? I am stumped!

Any help appreciated and I mean ANY! :icon_eek: :icon_mrgr '96 Monkey Carload (Monte Carlo)

I've had problems with my Ranger a couple of times where the corrosion got in between the lead and the terminal. I cleaned off the positive with the same results you have. Took off the negative AND positive and cleaned them both and VROOM VROOM!

my ranger goes that once every few months..Make sure your connections are snug there hinkster

...and it's the side post, so no covers or fillers. I guess I'll pull the old ground and check it out again. Curse'ed Basturd!

Keep ideas coming, PLEASE! ***HInk

Another thing you can check is the wire from the distribution center going to the alternator and starter. Another idea you can try real quick to tell if you have a ground issue is take your jumper cables and connect the negative terminal them the other end to a good clean ground source on the car. Good luck!

Can you explain this a little better for me? Distribution center? I am confused. Also the part about the negative terminal and jumpers confuses me. Duh, I am a dumb butt today or sumpin'.

Let me explain the Monte's setup. Due to putting the windshield cleaner water tank above the battery, Chevrolet put a jumper box up above and to the rear of the above mentioned tank. Hence the RED cable has TWO connections hooked into the battery connection. One to the starter and one to the jumper box. Either I missed a wire to put back into the system (I don't think so) or the battery may be bad (don't think so either). Thanks for any ideas. ***HInk :icon_mrgr

check the fuses

I have seen bad ignition switches and bad relay boxes on these as well hink

see if the fuses in the box under the hood have power, most should

first take a volt meter to the battery.
next (if the battery is good) turn the key on and grab the battery cables one at a time and shake and pull. if you hear anything happen than its a cable.
I would also check the starter. I have seen the nut come loose and the car looses all power.

??????????? Bye-Bye Monte

Thanks Dave. I pulled every fuse in the car yesterday. All looked good. I should have slammed the checker into them too. Oh well, it just got towed to the repair shop. Tired of freezing my bun's off. Got a sore back from doing that yesterday! :dontknow: ***HInk

Come on Hink... you know better than to play with the vibrator batteries in the cold. :D

Glad to hear you're still out there causing trouble in the middle of the winter wonderland. :beerchug:
