push rod final measurement advice

got into the shop for a few yesterday and got to set up my new pushrod tool and check PTV....THE VALVES CLEAR WITH .100!!!! YESS!

once i was all set and done getting my pattern down and looking nice, i pulled the tool out and put my calipers on both outside ball ends of the tool and have 7.790. i converted one of my hydraulic lifters to a solid lifter.

my questions are....

1. Did i measure the tool correctly using calipers on the outsides of the ball tips? ive read on comp cams website that there are 3 different ways to measure this and dont want to order the wrong set.

2. Do i need to add .060 to my measurement to compensate for the hydraulic lifter pre-load later?

thanks guys! Picture of said engine below....more pictures to come!

You measure the length from tip to tip, you are correct. I never added any length to that. The 1/4-1/2 turn you make with a hyd lifter in there isnt going to throw your pattern off enough to matter. Which tool did you use? The comp one is marked and every turn is .050 so no real need to have to use calipers

The way Trend measures them is not OAL(least not in their stocking .080 wall stuff)...... There is roughly .016 diff in length between OAL and measuring it at the .140 gauge measurement......Trend makes the Comp Measuring tool.....
