Pump gas Big Block Chevrolet questions

Anyone on here play with pump gas big block chevrolets? I am working on converting my car to a smaller cam and lowering the compression to run it on the street more. Any help is appreciated, thanks Eric L
 
I want to run the car on the street a little more. I figure if I run a thicker head gasket it will drop my compression down to 11.4-1 making it more pump gas friendly. I also am considering switching to a solid flat tappet instead of my solid roller. I took out a set of lifters this summer, and the replacement cost is astronomical, just looking to simplify things a little. Eric L
 
i run a pump gas small block with a solid roller .etc 1 kit and run 9.63 in the 1/4

and its for sale !!
 
BBC chevys have problems eating up flat tappet cams and lifters. Id stay with a solid roller and get one of those grinds meant more for the street. Stayng with a roller is way cheaper in the long run instead of having a cam go flat and having all the metal sent through your engine.

11.4 is still on the high side. Id keep it as is and think about a e85 conversion

thanks for the info. Im not afraid to run a mix of race gas at the track, and cruies around on pump gas. A friend has a oval port, cast iron headed 468 with 10.7 that runs pump on the street. It will detonate a little at the top of second with out race gas on the street. With my dart heads and efficent chamber, i think ill be ok with 11.4 if i choose my cam carefully.
