Pros/Cons 2011 Grand Cherokee

I figured someone here had to hear something about the 2011 grand cherokee/

I went last night to test drive a new 4dr Wrangler and almost walked out with a grand cherokee. After my wife drove the GC, the wrangler idea was out the door. It feels like a dramatic change from the prior 4 models (some being cosmetic changes).

I test drove the Hemi, but the sales guy kept pushing the ~300hp V6. Seems to me that is a heavy vehicle for a v6 or am i being old school? the hemi will shut down a few cylinders on the highway and get ~22mpg.

So has anyone heard anything about these? I'm leary to buy the first year of a completely redesigned vehicle.

All I can say is drive them both.
I have not drive the Hemi version but the v6 was not that bad imo. I was surprised it moved as good as it did, but in realty was still a slouch.

The v6 brand new and is already old. There is a reason they are putting the Hemi in the base trucks now.

Built on the Mercedes Benz M-class platform. That right there says a LOT about the vehicle to me.

Great vehicle - but it'll be expensive to maintain.

The hemi is the way to go. He's pushing the V6 because it can't and they need them gone. He probably gets a extra credit if he sells it.

my uncle sells them, he always has good things to say about the hemi, never speaks of the 6 lol.. but both are probably awesome.. whats the difference in gas mileage between the 2? now that gas is going up lol

con(s) to me:

No front ELSD for the Quadra-Drive II system like they had on the previous years.

Other than that, I think Chrysler nailed it. Looks great, nice interior, and double pane moonroof ftw.

There's a reason to stay away from first model year vehicles. I'm urging the same in this case

That said they are really nice cars and drive really nice. If you can get a fully optioned one with the air suspension you'll love it even more. Raises up or lowers 2" with the flick of a switch. they weren't available when production first started.

I bought the Overland 2wd model with the Hemi and love it. Great styling, great interior quality, and plenty of power. It is a little on the thirsty side though.

i have a hard time believing it gets 22mpg. my dad's '09 ram 5.7 gets a best of 16 or so. they look to be nice trucks. the air suspension would scare the shit out of me personally. range rovers, MB's, etc that have it, are EXPENSIVE to fix down the road. if it were me, i'd say it's too new to make a really educated buying decision. from a luxury aspect, i really dig the redesigned X5. on the sporty side, the FJ gets my vote. the new GC looks nice, but as i mentioned, i think it's just too soon to go out and spend the money on one.

the hemi is a beast, no doubt, but at $3.50 per gallon, i wouldn't want to fill that thing up.

If they aren't selling many I'd try to get a crazy deal on the V6. Like 10-15k off sticker.. Haha I'm not a fan of brand new vehicles. I like to find 1-2 year old vehicles for half price, low miles.

Why are you on Motown Muscle? I honestly think in every post you try to tell everyone how imports are better.
"I love the new wheels on my Mustang" "well they need spacers...look how the wheels on this import look, so much better"

"Anyone have any experience with the new Jeep GC?" " I would buy a Toyota or a BMW"

Shit gets old.

 blown out of proportion much?
for the record, i never posted anything about an "import" pertaining to the mustang. that one is all in your head.
i'm on here because i like cars. i could say a lot more on the subject, but i wont. believe me, i bite my tongue most of the time. :)

oh, and to add. if you're that annoyed, click on my screen name, go to my profile and add me to your ignore list. believe me it won't hurt my feelings in the least bit.

From FuelEconomy.gov (which, from my experience, is very accurate).

2011 Jeep GC 2WD with Hemi: Average 16 MPG (14 city / 20 hwy)
2011 Jeep GC 2WD with V6: Average 18 MPG (16 city / 23 hwy)
2011 Jeep GC 4WD with Hemi: Average 15 MPG (13 city / 19 hwy)
2011 Jeep GC 4WD with V6: Average 18 MPG (16 city / 22 hwy)

The GC is really too small to justify such crummy fuel economy. It's like the old Trail Blazer / Envoy. They get crappy MPG and aren't really big enough to be useful.

Unless you have serious towing requirements I'd look at an Edge, Escape, CRV, etc.

You can pull your four wheelers with the Edge.

We got your point the first time :haha: :thefinger

GC are good looking, but the MPG would scare me. Hell you're a lawyer, you can afford the gas, if not sue the oil companies
