Project turbo 04 GTO

This project is in its infancy stages right now. It is a Ls1 with a 6 speed. I am collecting the parts, and have almost everything I need. This will be a home garage build with a very small budget. This is the wife's car so the build will be mild with around 450 rwhp in mind. I am using an ON3 76mm turbo which I have used on other turbo projects and works flawlessly. This will be a front mount turbo setup and this car is a very tight fit for a turbo. I am keeping A/C so that will be hard to work around. If you guys have any experience on doing a turbo GTO or have sugestions, lets here or see them. Here is a pic of the car right now. I will probably start tearing it down in the next few weeks. Ill update as I go.

You still have the Malibu?

Yep, sitting in the garage. The Malibu is an awesome running driving car, I am thinking about doing a few things and kicking up the boost. Right now it is running 10.9 to 11.2. Car looks and sounds like a old man cruiser, but surprises many people. I want to turn up the HP and get it into the high 9s low 10s, but it is just so reliable right now. Definitely a fun car that never needs the hood to be opened for any reason.

Got some pics from my phone. Wanted to do a driver's side front mount turbo but there is virtually no room for the exhaust. So I did a log style passenger header. This engine bay is tight. I know what I built is not optimal but it will work for my needs. I still need to build the down pipe, mount the wastegate, and make some mounts for the piping and turbo. That should complete the hotside.

The turbo is so tightly packed in there that I'll have to use a screen. I ran out of gas on the tig welder so more work will be next weekend.

I've been pretty impressed with the ON3 turbos. I have their kit on my car with the 70mm base turbo they offer, 3 years and still making 10+ pounds of boost with no problems. You running their 76mm on your Malibu as well? Seen you run at Lapeer this year and that thing is definately surprising!

Yes. I'm running the on3 76 on the Malibu also. Next time come by and say hi. I had there base 70mm on one of my old notchback stangs, worked great and is still on the car working great 3 years now.

TIGHT setup!! MIGHT need some heat shield. Can't wait to see the WG/Downpipe. Don't forget the O2 bung, I forgot to add an extra on mine while building. Keep it up!

Thanks, I have the O2 bungs already, still need to put them in. I have heat shielding, exhaust wrap and a turbo blanket. It's hard to get alot done at once, I only have a few hours on the weekends to do anything.

Here are some update pics.
