Project Progress: 4 cam torino

4 cam tbird

In the last couple weeks I sold the 289, got the shock towers and factory cross member cut out and the Mustang II stuff from RC Motorsports welded in. The new engine now bolts in the car, so it really is the 4 cam torino now, a non running 4 cam Torino but a 4 cam torino nonetheless.

Engine bay starting point.

Motor mounts came as a few pieces in the kit, the flate plate needed a little clearancing for the block

Quite a bit of room to the cross member but the pan is close to the rack and about level with the bottom of the cross member. As low as I feel comfortable with. It'll get driven a lot and I definitely don't want the pan to be the first thing that would bottom out.

Obviously there's some clean up and painting to do once everything is fit together.

Fuckin Sweet! I knew you would end up doin it!

Almost as sure as I knew that Ranger wasnt going to make it over the cars at diamonds shop that one day:lol: For some reason I think of that when i see your car! :lmao: probably because of where it was parked....
Good stuff, gonna have it ready for spring? Cant wait to see the finished product! :)

I'm not going to say it will be out by spring but it should be. There's a lot of work left to do.

There's no tranny cross member, there's a hole in the firewall, and the floor, and the cowl. The pedals are still slightly up in the air. Lots of stuff to paint, wiring, plumbing...

Well, good luck to you! hope it goes well.....

Congrats on the progress Brad! Looks like there'll be plenty of room for a supercharger or turbo in there too ;)

Yeah, I got the engine real low. I cut quite a bit off the frame stands for the engine mounts from how they were provided in the kit. A whipple will DEFINITELY fit under the stock hood. It won't get boosted for a while so I have time to decide how to boost it. There's plenty of room for turbo piping or a super charger though.

Iv got a nice oil pan for that thing has a few scraps but I put about 9qts in my car with it

This is a really cool project, can't wait to see it done. I'm guessing the Torino weighs approximately what the Mark VIII did?

Great project Brad!!!! keep up on the pics!!! Looking forward to seeing it on the streets in 08 :rockwoot:

I think it's actually a few hundred pounds lighter although I've never actually weighed it to know for sure. Length and width wise the Torino is nearly the same as the Mark VIII/T-birds but there's way less structure in the Torino body, especially the doors.

would the motor squeeze between the shock towers? i've got a ton of question i'll be hitting you up later with.

what offset and wheel tire combo did you put under it?

Looking good Brad! Can't wait to see it progress as you start cleaning and painting that stuff up. It is going to be sweet!

The motor wouldn't quite squeeze in there, it was real close to making it, you could definitely notch them and make them fit. There was a Falcon wagon on drag week this year with a 4V 4.6L in it using notched shock towers. I wanted to upgrade the suspension parts anyway and this was actually cheaper I think than upgrading the stock shit and gave me more room.

Proper offset for a 17 x 9 would be 0. I've got like 1/8" negative as I am. 0 would be better. I just couldn't get to 0 in a way that I liked. I trimmed the lips on all 4 corners. You would still have to do it at 0 but not as much (well duh!). You are honestly getting into an area where it's so tight that that 1/8" does make a difference. I have 245/45's in the front and 275/40's in the rear. The tire height of the 245/45 is the absolute unquestionable limit on tire height with the 17 x 9. I would have put 18's on it if I could have found them, and I would have been fucked, lol.
