I have a 2000 Mustang GT that has 95,xxx miles and a stock motor..

I want a little more fun and im not rich... I have been looking at doing some cams or procharge..

I want to get the most power without blowing it up..

What yall think? Procharge? or heads and cams?

I'd like too.. I just think about the money aspect of it.. I can do heads and cam for alot less then a procharger.. HEads and cam will not abuse the motor as much.. I think i'd have to rebuild the motor to take the abuse of the prochrager..

Anyone else have any good input? Any other 2v guys had this same decsion to make?

Heads ad cams are a waste of time and money IMO. You can get a used vortec s-trim kid for a good price an have no problem putting 400 hp on pumpgas down very easily. I've seen guys put 450 plus down on pump gas an have no issues with a good tune.
2v heads an cams are not worth it IMO unless they are free or dirt cheap lol. Or turbo it even better! Make great power and great mpg lol

Ive gone back and forth with what I want to do to my GT. Heads and cams would be nice but for a little more money you can easily make 400whp with the stock engine and a centrifugal; then have room to grow in the future depending on what head unit you choose.

Everything I have read said that a 2v block with take about ~425HP. I'm a little worried about boosting a STOCK block that has 95,xxx miles on the clock. I would hate to boost it and have it blow up with in the same season. I have read that the heads and came are less stressful on the motor then a FI. I also already have a 4.30 in the car. I know that is a steep gear. Too steep for most boosted applications. Given i could always switch out to a smaller gear. My main goals for the car are really to dip into the mid 12's or even high 11's no spray... I've always wanted to say I could to it N/A. I'm starting to doubt it now..

Right now I have mainly a gear and bolt ons..

My last slip read 13.0x @ 103MPH w/ 1.75 60FT w/ a 26in tire

or

13.1x @ 107MPH w/ 1.85 60FT w/ a 27in tall tire.

Just weighing my options to see what the best route to take.

Well with 4.30s id do something that can run to 7k easily. Forged internals, TF heads, nice cam and a good intake.
$$$$ lol
Im2slow on here had a 02. Gt with 75,000 on it and a s-trim went 11.7 on race gas at 475hp I believe With 3:73 and a 5spd He drove the shit out of it and beat on it pretty good when running race gas tune.

Why is it necessary to rev it to 7k? I shift my 03 cobra at 6500.

Knowing you have a high mileage engine, I would look for a blower and put it on at its stock boost level.

okay maybe you dont need the TF heads or forged internals. The stock shortblock should be able to rev close to 7k.

i have heard of porting the stock heads. Is that even worth it?

It's not unless your putting a blower on it. But even then you won't see much gain from all the work u had to do. Find a used blower or turbo kit it will be your best bet. IIRC 2v don't really respond well to heads and cams. It is way to much work for very minimal gains IMO.

Nice thing about a boosted application is that if you decide to step it up, you just need different pullies. Also... I think 6 PSI would gain a bit more power than Porting/cams which is why it can hurt the motor easier. If you plan on more power when funds allow I wouldn't think twice about boost.

Thanks for the input.. Im starting to realize that boosting it will get me more power and speed? Is there any cams out there that are proven to help a turbo/procharger?

LOL. Says the guy with a 93 saturn sl2!

A 3.73 would be better suited for a 2 valve with a blower. I would put a blower on and a 3.73 before spending loot on cams, port work, etc.....

With 4.30s you need something that can rev or else its going to be very boring. IMO. Who wants a car that tops out before 100mph?

Rear end gear can be changed at any time.. That's is the least of my worries atm.. Im not sure my plans for the furture is... I've always wanted a N/A beast. but I may boost it down the road.. Im going to keep a 4.30 in it untill it see's boost. I guess my question is is there any cams that i can get that will work well with a procharger?
