Pretty sad if you ask me....

I LOVE dogs.
I've had mutts and pure breeds. Big dogs and small ones. As I think about it, I've had 5 dogs through my life. It may not seem like many, but I've had most of them all their lives. I've never had any of the breeds from the "pit" family, so I can't really address their temperment. I've never had anything even close to a "mean" dog. They've all been raised in an atmosphere being of a loving member of the family. I have never considered raising a dog any other way. While I think the "pits" ARE getting a bum rap, I wouldn't own one just because I don't want to find out if the "just snapped" issues ARE true. If I had a neighbor who had one, and it was presented as a friendly pet, I would still give it a wider berth than I would say a shepherd, or or a retriever.

I don't think they should be broad-brushed as "bad", but I question the choice of them as a pet based on their reputation. What is the attraction over, say a boxer? Or a bulldog? Can one of the pit owners help me understand this? Why buy into the controversy if you have a choice?

That's my opinion, not yours.

i have two that are no different than any other dog i had growing up except for how they look and how strong they are... all dogs have their own quirks and personalities... its knowing those that is important when they are in public or company is over to avoid any potential problems... i love the way my dogs look and if others are afraid of them thats fine, dont try to pet them... they are great pets in my opinion

ive said this before... my big one which is 110-120lbs has been attacked by a taco bell dog and my little one which is about 55lbs has been attacked twice, once by a lab and another time by a golden retriever... the taco bell dog he just looked at and turned around, the two that came after her i had to kick to get them to go away...

I can't speak for every pit bull owner just myself and the ones I know. For one...it shouldn't be "the attraction" really I should be allowed to own or choose any breed I desire without having to worry about people wanting to eliminate them. I know that doesn't answer the question, but thought I should say it.

I grew up with GSD's my whole life aside from a sheperd collie mix. Khan is my 2nd pit bull. I personally will never own another breed. He is the best dog I have ever had. Just like any other breed they have attributes that owners like. They are people pleasing dogs. Which unfortunately has been used for people to abuse them easily. They will do what their owner wants and desires. They are entirely people focused. Every one I have ever met has been so "in love" with people. Khan wants to be around me at all times. Usually touching me. If he is on the couch and I sit down he moves closer  They are very affectionate. They are athletic and generally excel at any dog sport they compete in. I like the way they look and the short fur as well. The difference between pit bulls and GSD's is like night and day. Of course that is because they are 2 totally different breeds, with different traits. I still like the look of GSD's and love my parents GSD, but having owned a pit bull I don't think I could ever own a GSD.

I can say years ago when my ex wanted to get a pit bull I was not in to the idea. I said they were ugly and it looked like someone stepped on their heads  I was more talking about the over done American Bully style. We got our first one as a puppy and he really grew on me quickly. Which is why after we split I adopted Khan. I think it is hard sometimes for "outsiders" to understand why pit bull owners seems so all about defending the breed, etc. I can say if you own this breed you have to be ready to encounter a LOT of negative comments, etc. and you do feel the need to try and defend what you love, that is only natural. If someone kept telling you your dog was a worthless piece of shit that should be killed, etc You would probably feel the same.

I have had many breeds of dogs in my family since I was 6 years old, that's 31 years of experience :) Let me say this, after owning a pure bred APBT I will never own any other breed of dog, ever.

Never in my life have I seen such a loving and caring breed around children. I have two daughters and this dog is amazing with kids and loves and protects them more than anything. My Daughters are 9 & 6 and you can imagine how many little friends they have coming over and all they want to do is play with the dog. if they get to rowdy with the dog and he wants them to get away he starts to lick them like crazy and they run from him! He has learned that little kids run when he licks so that is his defense against the little bastards

The moral of the story is to all that have never owned this breed you have no right to judge the dog based on what you see/hear via media. If you are that ignorant to think that it is the breed and the dogs fault and not the owners than be that as it may but you have no clue until you have owned one.

Are Pit bull owners hypersensitive to this shit? The answer is absolutely! Do you know why that is? Because we know the truth about this breed and like I said before, until you have owned one you will never know. The "Just snapped" theory is also media bullshit you read in to. Quit the bullshit comments and hyped up media fucking beliefs until you have owned one.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it, have a great day :)
