Prepping a Dana 60

Hey folks, 1st timer here.

While out in Pomona for the Finals had the chance to walk through the vendors. Strange, Mark Williams, Moser all had there displays out.

Nice stuff. You pavement guys have a lot of aftermarket support. Us 4 wheel drive folks don`t have the same stuff.

Like to ask what all you folks do to make the D60 hold up.

Prepping a pair of High Pinion D60`s for my off roader.

Using the 35 spline chromo axles F/R. Full Float spindles in the rear have been opened up to 1.6x to pass the 1.5 axles
CTM U Joints
Detroit Lockers
5.38 gears
1410 yokes and driveshaft weld yokes/flanges

The Ford axle(s) have been changed to Chevy 1 ton 8 lug outers. Chevy King Pins with reinforced knuckles up front. Rear disc brakes in the rear axle.

The rear axle is trussed. Tying the tubes to the center section.

Plan on using an LPW girdle and a set of MW main caps with ARP studs.

Anything else you can think of ?

Thanks !!

Call currie enterprises. They work alot in 4wd market.

Thanks Sean for the advice.
Honestly Currie doesnt get involved with projects this "hardcore". The only one who really could compare is Dynatrac in the 4wd vendors.

Most all the 4wd guys are selling a 60 (HP/LP) with a set of axles, gears and and ARB or detroit. Your choice of width. Things like trusses or girdles, main caps etc is foreign to them.

use nickle rod only when tying the tubes, and do not weld ANYTHING to the housing after its been straightened. studs are nice option, but machined billet cap is only needed on the left cap. lockers are very aggressive, power-lock posi are very strong and work well.....why not use a true trac in the front axle?...
how much weight?? pinion brake is a nice option.

Thanks Detroit Gearbox.
Used a high nickel rod for all welding. Like on the knuckles. They were reinforced with formed 1/4 and 3/8 plate. High nickel to weld them together. Same for the truss to housing

Planned on using the caps on the ring gear side only.

Indeed the lockers are harsh but they work. Considering the ARB air lockers. That way I can turn on the front locker only when it is needed. Open diffs for street runniing. Have On Board Air now so half the work is already done.
Currently have the Tru Trac is the HP44 that is being used now. Nice unit but I am looking to rock both axles up.

Plan on using a pinion brake from High Angle Drive Line. Not so much as a moving brake but as a parking brake. The Eldorado type calipers that incorporate a parking brake feature do not like the rigors of off roading. Constant adjustments and headaches.

Not sure if there is any local shops that might be able to help out with a pinion brake. If I can do business local then that is the way to go.

Thanks guys. keep `em coming !!

make sure you get 35spline shafts in the rear dana 60. The 30 spline is a waste of time if you plan to beat on it
