Powerhouse Gym

Any members here go to the location at 16 and Gratiot?

Just curious how often I run into people on here and not know it (Powerhouse seems to have a ton of good cars in the lot so I figure theres a good chance they are on here)

I go to the one at 16 and Livernois in Troy pretty much everyday. Sometimes I'll hit up the one on 14 mile in Madison Heights. Next week I'll be out that way, I'll try to drop in for a couple workouts.

How do you like the Gratiot location? I've been thinking about signing up there. I go to the Power House in Highland Park now but the gratiot location is closer to work so I can hit it on my way home.

Wow, Powerhouse. Brings back memories. How is the franchise doing? Man I used to go to a few of them back in the day. I still use some of the merchandise (bag and sweats) . I even went to the Original for a spell in the 80's. I just looked it up online and it looks a LOT different now.

I like it. The owner is great. There is a ton of free weights for good selection. There are a LOT of members who compete in lifting or body building (male or female) The membership is $19/mo. Worth the extra money over Planet Fitness.

Are you on an older plan or something? I looked at the powerhouse by my place and they wanted $35/month plus $100 to sign up and that was for only access to that gym.

Went to LA Fitness because I pay $30/month, no start up fees and I can go to any gym in the country.

I used to pay $40/ mo. When I came back to MI I saw them advertising 19/month in the window. I think it was $100 to sign up then the monthly fee, no commitments. Its still on the window, try calling and asking them about it.

Do you have access to all their gyms? I travel for work so its nice to be able to go more than one location.

Sorry for the high jack.

I don't think so. With me being a Power House Detroit member, it does not allow me access to the other clubs. I would need to sign up for the other locations separately.

That's how the Highland Park location is too. Majority of the men/women there compete. I paid $250 for 14 months. I'm definitely going to check out the Gratiot location if they are advertising $19 a month. I would never step foot in a planet fitness.

Planet fitness is great....just make sure to wear your CROSSFIT shirt

That's what blows about PowerHouse. It's because they are franchised, not corporate owned.
I'm a member at PowerHouse West Bloomfield as well as Lifetime. Lifetime is great if you want a pool/jacuzzi/basketball/etc.

I think I'd be hard pressed to support a gym that discourages weight lifting while offering fat fucks a slice of pizza.

I was kidding about Planet Fitness :)

I also like Lifetime, just so expensive.

How do you figure that ?

Yes and no. It sounds expensive, but is $20/week really that big a deal?
That's less expensive than a Starbucks coffee each day. And for that you get access to a facility that would cost millions to duplicate.

You sound like a "Lunk". They have a "judgement free zone" unless of course you look like an athlete then boy they'll be keepin an eye on you. LMAO
Judgement free my ass. They seemed to be extremely judgmental of the woman who complained when a man was in the woman's changing room.

Exactly. No one who actually goes to the gym or knows anything about diet would agree with that bull crap.
Ohh, if you're going to the gym twice a week once a month pizza and bagels blah blah.
Think about that line for a second. The average slice of pizza is 300-500 calories.
How many calories do these people think they are burning with their no grunting silent workouts?
One slice of pizza has more calories than they will burn off in a workout. They're totally wasting their time.

Planet fitness is all about fleecing people who aren't really into working out, but want to say they have a gym membership

$10 or $15 a month isn't really fleecing. That's a nominal contribution for the pizza and bagel party. :D
